Flyers and Caps. I would have spaced it out differently myself. Especially with the three games in four days, two against the two other best teams in the East (@ Boston Tuesday night).
It's funny, he's kind of already eclipsed "Mr. Clutch" Chris Drury in terms of clutch, meaningful goals for the Rangers. I have to agree with what a lot of the players have to say about Richards though. They all paint him a huge leadership presence and it seems like he relishes the identity of the team (forechecks hard, cycles the puck deep and bangs along the boards). I'd hope he doesn't make a habit of losing touch with the score sheet for weeks at a time but he does mean a lot to the team beyond putting the puck in the net.
Tough stretch. But it's better that they have some challenges before the deadline and more importantly before the playoffs.
Drury was a great hockey player, just not so much for us. I'm not gonna fault the guy for hitting a rough patch at the end of his career, hockey is a tough game. That said, I agree Richards is a great presence for us on the ice, he makes everyone around him better and comes through when it matters most. That's something special.
Beat me to the punch...I read this today too. Whitney is exactly what I'm hoping for. I think he's got some of the playmaking ability left, he's certainly showing that this year. Either one would be a good veteran presence but I watch a lot of Oiler games (seriously haha) and I'm not sure how well Smyth would mesh.
They definitely had defensive lapses in the 2nd period, but for the vast majority of the game they were the MUCH better team. Again, just couldn't finish chances.
Looking like 11 forwards and 7 d-men against Flyers with possibly Bickel on 4th line RW, no call up for Feds...possible concussion...
Wolski on 2 week conditioning stint with Whale, could have brought Zucc or Deveaux up but I think he wants a tougher lineup vs Flyers
Whitney plays the point on the PP and is +18 Ryan smith has 36 points and is a fixture in front of the net...
