John Tortorella, Douche Bag to the Press http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/18/s...t-the-rangers-coachs-postgame-interviews.html
I'm honestly getting fed up with it myself. Maybe because it seems to be the hot button issue and there's a dozen different articles addressing his mantra instead of just the usual from Larry Brooks. But I'm thinking to myself enough is enough. Trust me, I hear some of the assinine questions he faces in these things and I have no problem with him making an actually idiot feel like an idiot. This isn't a matter of playing things close to the vest, though. It's being a douche for the sake of just that. Listen Torts, if you're gonna bench your best scorer for half the third period while you're down a goal then you should be held accountable for having to answer for yourself.
It starts from the top. Slats won't talk to the press, so you think he has the standing to force Torts to do it? Same deal for Jimbo, so you think he can force slats to force torts? Tortorella fits right in here
Difference is, a GM and owner aren't making on-the-fly decisions every day that are directly effecting the outcome of what's happening on the ice.
i wouldn't be too down on the boys, they were beaten to the puck all night, they'll have more on saturday than they did last night, and they still had a chance to win thanks to henrik. no panic here, never.
I know it bro.......and with the momentum on their side now, I feel the Devils will make me correct with my game 3 prediction as well.
Regarding Torts.....the more I htought about it last night, the more moronic the benching of Gabs became in my head. Listen, Gabs is a homo, Euro trash faggot. But he didnt become one last night. He's been one all year. I understand Torts has a system. But you cant jam a square peg into a round hole. Benching your only world class scorer( until Kreider becomes one) because he wont slide down and block a slap shot with his face is assinine. That shit is sooo not Gabs, it isnt funny. But down a goal in game 2 of the ECF is no time to send a retarded message. He benched him for th elast 3 mins of the 2nd.......then he could have told him what a pussy he is in the lockerroom and that would and should havebeen teh end of it.
It's not just blocking the shot, Torts can live with that. The problem was the lack of effort and hussle to check and get the puck and properly move it. It hurts the team if a guy is not doing his job and all the other guys are carrying the weight. That has a nasty effect on the whole team and he can't afford to let that slide
I'm mixed on the Gabby thing, keeping in mind I missed a lot of the game. To me, yeah you yell at him between periods, tell him to pull his head outta his ass, and make sure he makes up for the screw up by netting one, he certainly can't do that from the bench. The other way to look at is from the team's pov. I would think Torts has the pulse on that aspect, i.e if the teams' pissed that Gabby's on the bench and they're missing a weapon, then it's stupid, if the team would be pissed if Torts didn't nail him to the bench for a while, then it was the right thing to do.....he knows that better than us I suspect.
if this was November 11th, they could bench him for amonth for all I care. But its not. You dont want Gabs on teh team, do something in the off season. Hes never gonna be Larry Melnyck sliding all over theice blocking shots. Again, I understand the system but not every player is going to fit into the system. Similar to the Jets attempting 50 passes in a game with Sanchez as QB
You're missing the point, he cost the Rangers a goal last night. So not only is he NOT scoring, but he's also resulting in goals AGAINST the Rangers. It's all fine and good what a weapon he is on paper (regular season paper), but the product on the ice was something different
But here's what you're missing...it's not like the Rangers have the production, nor the talent capable of the production coming from a Boyle, Prust, Mitchell, etc. from tertiary lines. I get that motivation is what the overall goal of benching Gaborik is, but then why not just sit him for the entire rest of the game? To me, it's like either one or the other. You're willing to take your best scorer out of the lineup and having him unavailable for precious minutes when you're trailing but then what? By the 9 minute mark Torts says, "oh crap, well we REALLY need him now." (?) I'll play the other side of the coin too. Maybe you do fire him up. Maybe he goes into Newark and puts one past Brodeur in Game 3 and your motivational/disciplinary tactic works. Don't you think the Rangers could have used him in those 10 or so minutes in Game 2 to have the possibility of scoring the equalizer and going into Newark with a 2-0 lead?
these guys have overachieved and surprised us all season, i just don't see that ending in this series, they were actually up 2-1, and if not for an incredible goal by clarkson, they may have stolen both of the first two games. last night showed some wear and tear, it was obvious from the first minute, have a little faith, it has sustained me so far through this bruising post sason. how many rangers have we seen bleeding so far? 8? or more? goals are a commodity right now, as they always have been, i'll take henrik over fatso in the end, and that's probably what it's gonna come down to. fear not, this thing is still in the cradle.
I see what youre sayin but what youre missing is that he is what he is. Further, he is what he always will be. So whats the point of benching him? Its not like he just stood there and watched the shot. He skated out to the shooter and got in front of him ( albeit partially--Euro style). He did have a give-away but its a mistake. Ultimately, our lack of goal scoring is what is going to prevent us from winning the cup, we all know that. To bench that fag last night only made it harder and less likely to tie the game. Boyle cost us the first goal. Was he benched?
I don't, I really don't. He easily could have cost the Rangers a 4th goal. Actually it sort of is, Rangers lead the playoffs with goals by defensemen. But you do have to lean on your top lines and that's why Richards, Hagelin, Callahan, etc.. were out there. They were pulling their weight. Gabs has just not been right in the postseason and last night was a special kind of crappy and he needed to be sent a message
An dlike I was saying before with Hackett....if I had my drothers, we would block way less shots. I hitnk its borderline insanity. And I dont think its neccesary. As good defensively as Staal, McD and Girardi are and having Hank in net, I hitnk we can stay on our fucking feet a little more. Its almost embarrassing to tell you the truth
