Well see there's the problem. You should never get excited when the Jets sign somebody from the CFL just because the Dolphins struck gold with Cameron Wake. If anything comes of this than great but more often than not players signed from somewhere like the CFL are basically just like undrafted free agents who are there to fill up the training camp roster spots
Maybe its the same reason Kurt Warner and Warren Moon went to the CFL to play football. I remember guys laughing at Cameron Wake last year too. Are they laughing now?
Wake was a different beast altogether. I remember watching him, and he was head and shoulders above any player in the CFL. It was like Mario Williams threw on a BC Lions uniform and started playing. Guys are great CFL players and then that's it, that's all they ever will be. Then you have guys who are unstoppable who can make it anywhere, and Wake was one of those guys. I have never seen teams put four guys on one defensive end, and still watch him get a sack.
Yes, there are a couple success stories from the CFL. There's still an entire league up there filled with players that aren't good enough for the NFL.
what's the process for picking guys up from the cfl? is it a first come first serve type deal? do the nfl teams have to buyout the player from the cfl team? just curious as to how the dolphins landed wake. was there a bidding war or did the dolphins just snatch him up first?
Kurt Warner never played in the CFL. He played in the Arena League and played in NFL Europe. Warren Moon went to the CFL because the NFL teams wanted him to change his position and he wanted to play QB.
and there are a million kids playing college football that never make it in the NFL. Therefore, maybe we should not draft any college kids! Maybe we ought to give the guy we signed a chance to play before we act so critical. I remember when Otto Graham and the Cleveland Browns were in the All-America Conference. The NFL purists laughed at them and thought Graham was a joke and never could make it in the great NFL. guess what? After the Browns were absorbed into the NFL they won the next 5 Championships against NFL teams! I also remember when the NFL laughed at the AFL. I have learned to wait and see before jumping to conclusions.
I remember when the Jets drafted Carl McAdams from college. he failed and I hope this turns out better then that! And what about Blair Thomas? Dave Cadigan? Mike Nuggent? and the beat goes on!
You left out Bill Yearby and Dave Foley! PS I only mentioned Turner Gill because the Jets drafted him in a supplemental draft when everyone else was drafting USFL stars
Who's being critical and who's jumping to conclusions? I hope the kid works out but the odds aren't in our favor. Didn't we sign somebody from the CFL last year?
