I’m not sure why saying he was an alright player for a year pisses you off so much. The Jets spending like morons on CJ Mosley is not his fault.
I had a bad feeling Sharon Lee was gonna suck early on. I think it was against Buffalo, like week 2 or 3 and our Jets had a big lead, Sharon Lee went out there and played some of the softest/strangest defense I've seen, he let in a couple touchdowns. Its like he ran away from the ball carrier. It didnt matter, Jets won 40 something to 30 something so it wasn't talked about much but he looked like he was not cut out for this league
Douche move by Lee. Sadly enough tho, he is right. The team has managed to get even worse since his tenure. Irony in this thread is all the people calling him mini or twerp, while praising our GM for drafting even SMALLER LBs, who are not even LBs at all. Fan base and organization just never gets off the merri-go-round of mistakes.
They're gonna start to fix that is offseason …I have a feeling the LB position is going to see infusions ….
Do you think that is on JD? I'd say it was on Saleh asking for these player types, isn't that the way we want our GM's to draft? You know, ask the coach what he wants and players that fit the HC's scheme or you end up with square pegs and round holes. Of course, I am only guessing, so don't completely leave the blame the GM room.
All I remember was the INT TD return against Detroit in Darnold’s first game. And that was the game rumor had it the Jets had gotten their hands in the Lions playbook lol!
It’s frustrating because the Patriots are doing the same exact thing with Kyle Dugger and Adrian Phillips in safety/linebacker roles except they’re actually playing well.
Yes 100% that’s on JD and the scouts. Draft selections and the final 53 are their responsibility. coaches may have stressed infusing speed into the LB corp, like they had with Werner and Greenlaw. The GM and scouts decided to use draft capital on undersized Safeties thinking they can turn them into those type of players. And they did it twice.
So a coach that, let's say for the sake of argument requested said player, the GM drafts him, one is at fault and the other is getting away with it scot-free? All I am saying is it isn't as black and white as make out, you don't know (and neither do I) what has gone on in meetings between JD and Saleh, I do find it telling and you also know that Saleh likes that kind of player, so it isn't a shock to see them drafted, I'd rather that than drafting a guy that is not a scheme fit or you end up with Becton and Mims situations, high draft picks struggling in a new scheme. Of course, I am just countering your blatant need to jump all over JD every chance you get
I think we can blame all of the above. But I’m not particularly very down on taking all the hybrid linebackers/safeties at the bottom of the draft. What I am down on is counting on them as 5th/6th round rookies to be anything more than special teamers. To have Sherwood calling the plays when Mosley was out is inexcusable.
I did find that strange, you have to wonder if he had shown something in training to be given that task on a game day but it was an odd move imo
It’s a pretty clear delineation. I don’t blame GMs for play calling or in game adjustments either. every once in awhile you will hear about a coach loving a specific player and the team drafts them. But again that was the GMs call and responsibility, it doesn’t absolve him. If anything it’s like a Coach calling more plays for a whining WR. It’s still the coaches decision. Also i don’t recall Saleh playing undersized Safeties at LB, only that he likes speed. the draft picks are 100% on the GM and scouts.
