Take this as you will. https://www.sny.tv/jets/news/nfl-so...s-dont-fix-ol-with-first-draft-pick/312946936
No surprises there. Douglas has stated many times that he believes the game starts in the trenches. If Becton, Thomas, or Wirfs are there then they’re the pick. If it’s between Wills and Jeudy it’s not as surefire for me.
Does anyone think we need to add a RB in the mid-to-lower rounds this year? Hopefully, with a better OL, Bell will have more success, but I fear that he has slowed down and will not be all the effective as a runner, even with a better OL. The other RBs on the roster at the moment are Josh Adams, Kenneth Dixon, Trenton Cannon, and Jalin Moore, who was a rookie last year and on IR. I don't think that Cannon offers much as a RB. I'd like to see a RB who can take it to the house from anywhere on the field and Cannon has the speed for that, but not the vision or elusiveness. I also want a RB who is more of a power back. Unless Moore or Adams can fill that, I'm not sure that we have a RB on the Roster who can fill either need. I hope that Moore is healthy and will be a pleasant surprise. He was very good at Appalachian St., is 5'10" & 212 lbs., and I believe that he has some power as well. I know that Adams played a season for the Eagles and played for a minute or two last season with the Jets. He seems to have some potential as a #2 or #3 RB. He is 6'2" & 225 lbs., so he should have some power. All I know about Dixon is that he played for the Ravens in 2016 & 2018 and didn't play at all for the Jets last year (at least according to NFL.com). I assume he was injured or out of football in 2017. Based on his stats, he looks to be a pretty good receiver out of the backfield and had a good YPC stat for his limited carries. He also fumbled several times in his limited carries. I also haven't seen anyone speak much about the backup QB position. I've seen a poster or two advocate drafting a developmental QB, and one or two others either advocate re-signing Trevor Siemian or signing another FA QB. Siemian was so bad in his only appearance last year, I don't think I want him back. He was like a deer in the headlights. The young QB who wound up starting a number of games for us and whose name escapes me at the moment, looked much better in the game in which Siemian was injured than Siemian did. Hopefully, the backup will never have to see the field this season. Siemian was cheap, and should be cheaper to re-sign with the way he looked last season, and he will probably be cheaper than any of the other FA options, so I guess the Jets should re-sign him.
Getting a RB in the middle rounds is almost a must as Bell might've lost a step and even if he hasn't, Powell and Montgomery are FA's. Powell is at the age where RB's typically decline and Montgomery wasn't used much last year.
