Hes arguably the most talented OL in this class. Hes got crazy upper body strength, great lower flex & can really sink his hips. But hes got really sloppy foot work, hand placement & should be a much better pass blocker even w the mechanical flaws. Balance can also be an issue. Hes pure boom or bust.He has Larrry Allen type upside but could also be A Vlad Ducasse
Definitely agree. He has to get his feet under him or he's going to be lunging too much and whiffing. He did it a couple times yesterday. It's tough to ignore the raw power though. He seriously was just standing there with one arm not moving blocking Indiana defensive tackles in pass protection yesterday.
Unless he goes to Miami and turns out to be better than Darnold. Which he probably will be if he stays healthy.
Feels inevitable he ends up in Miami. Maybe somebody will trade up to the Lions pick and take him there. No way Washington trades out of #2
Someone is going to try and jump them for Tua. I doubt Washington will trade the pick because Young is going to fall into their lap, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Detroit or the Giants dish the pick.
If they have any sense, they'll call Detroit and NYG and ask if another team has made an offer to trade up. Given all their draft capital, they should be able to beat any other offer.
That's definitely the smart thing to do to guarantee Tua but who knows. Also - Saw a lot of people talking on Twitter about how Burrow, Tua, Herbert, and now Jordan Love could be all picked within the top 10?
Burrow, Tua, and Herbert yes. Love isn't commonly seen as a top 10 prospect, but you never know what could happen between now and the draft.
Yeah especially for QBs. The best thing for us would be him balling out at the combine and be super impressive so he could be taken before us or available when we pick to trade down.
I hear what you're saying, but I still find it hard to get excited about a QB going before us when, based on how Darnold's done so far, there's a decent chance that QB ends up being better than Darnold.
Douglas and Gase better know now whether they believe that Sam is the real deal. Unless they already have strong doubts, I think that the Jets have to proceed as if they know that Darnold is a FQB and will be their starter for the next 10 years. They have to do everything possible to ensure that he will succeed. They have to put a very good OL in front of him and surround him with elite playmakers, or at least very good ones, even if that means ignoring the defense for a year or two. If the Jets take the attitude that they aren't sure and don't commit to him, then it's almost certain that he won't develop/succeed. Even giving that we have a new GM and HC that owe nothing to Mac or Darnold, they owe it to themselves, the team and the fans to see that he succeeds. Finding a QB is too hard and costs too much draft capital unless one is drafting high and a QB falls into your lap. The more Douglas gets the roster developed, the harder and more costly it will be to trade up to find another QB. If they do have strong doubts, then they should draft another QB, but I don't think they will. When you take a QB in the 1st round and even the 2nd round to some extent, you're pretty much committed to him for at least 3 years. That is even more true when you take one in the top 5 picks, especially when you've trade up to get there. Sam had absolute shit coaching his first season and a lousy OL, and not much in the way of offensive talent around him. It's a moot point whether the coaching was any better his 2nd season (but I believe it was), but the OL was even worse, and even with the addition of Bell and Crowder, the talent around Sam was only marginally better, a wash, or perhaps worse (no Herndon or Enunwa). There's no way on earth that they could possibly move on, when he hasn't had a good OL to protect him, really good coaching, and hasn't been surrounded with topflight offensive playmaking talent. I think you should resign yourself to the fact that Sam is our QB for at least the 2020 season, and probably much longer. If Douglas is able to markedly upgrade the OL and add a topflight WR in the draft and Sam doesn't show marked progress in 2020, then they may look too move move on by taking a QB in the 2021 draft, but they'd probably have to trade multiple #1 and #2 picks to move up, and even then no one may be willing to trade down.
I agree that this is what we're going to do, it's the best course of action given our situation. Having said that, if in a parallel universe Tua didn't get hurt, and we had the league's hardest schedule and got the #1 pick, I'd want us to take Tua and trade Sam. For that matter, if we had the #1 pick, I'd consider taking Burrow and trading Sam (though I like a healthy Tua better than Burrow, I'm concerned Burrow is a one-year wonder). Regardless, we don't, so I just hope this all works out for us, especially since the Pats run may finally be coming to an end.
Anyone seen much of Zach Baun. He is undersize so I'm not sure how he will do against some of the better tackles, but he is pretty fast. He definitely has boom or bust potential. This year he has been pretty good for Wisconsin. If he falls to late round I could see taking a flyer on him.
Giants really should trade the #3, they need more players and I am sure they can find a lineman in the mid to late first. If they need pass rushers there will be some available
Giants are 4, but your point still stands. Only problem is that Gettleman refuses to make draft pick trades.
