Yes he is. Knee injury in off-season workout. Came back to play full season. Good corners? SEC Conference as UT's #1 threat: 6 catches vs. Alabama, 6 catches vs. Georgia, 7 catches vs. South Carolina, 7 catches vs. Florida. Personal foul vs. Vandy (stepped on punt returner's head out of bounds-nasty, dumb).
Definitely someone to keep an eye on. He project as a 6th-udfa atm on most mocks. Could end up being a steal late.
Here's to hoping that Justin Herbert has a great game and Miami decides they don't want to wait on Tua and take this Geno Smith clone.
This Mario Cristobal is a moron. This game is shades of the Auburn game where he kept running up the gut on third and fourth and short and it just kept not working.
I know I shouldn't but you mean like Adam Gase with Bell this year? Lol sorry I couldn't help myself.
Johnson looks fast enough to me. He has great concentration, hands and just produces. The Wisconsin HC isn't much smarter. He rarely throws on 1st down as the announcers keep saying he should do, and isn't throwing down the field. He keeps trying to run the ball between the tackles and throwing short passes.
I was just reading Johnsons scouting report when I said he was slow. I like his from what I have seen.
I thought the complaint with Gase was too many passes/bootlegs on third and fourth and short? In any level of the game I personally like anything but the run up the gut in short yardage situations. You have 6-7 points of failure and need to prevent penetration on so many blocks to have a shot at making it. It only takes one missed block to lose the play. Cristobal with an athletic 240 pound quarterback like Herbert just keeps running his small 200 pound runningback right off the centers left side. I get he's an offensive line guy and has a bunch of veteran guys but my God. He lost the Auburn game because of it.
I was going with the quit running Bell up the gut argument. But I agree with your assessment of the game.
Fair enough. On a prospect note. I'm not impressed with Biadasz or Hanson. I was earlier in the year with Biadasz but he's not having a very good game.
Biadasz is overrated.Still a very good center prospect but hes simply not that great isolated 1 on 1. Hanson i like..pretty similar level to Biadasz though but not the same athlete. Humphrey is the jewel of this center class; And arguably the best OL in this entire draft class in terms of what The Jets need up front for Darnold. You just dont find Centers w his natural leverage & anchor...
I worry way less about my center in pass protection that I do in the run game. It's a lot easier to call a protection where you can make yourself the help blocker as the center or get help if you're having trouble with an interior rusher. And there's not some huge excess of dominant interior pass rushers. And I think Biadasz is the best run blocker of the bunch. I'd be happy with Humphrey and Biadasz in the second and Hanson in the third. But I don't think any of them are going to be Mangold 2.0. I'm also wondering if Ben Garland (SF) and Matt Skura (BAL) might be targets so we can avoid needing a center in the draft and get a veteran.
the more I think about it, pick OL with the first rounder. There will be tons of WR's available in the 2nd round...guys like Hamler will be there, or even Tyler Johnson from Minny, who's done nothing but produce, who I'm sure can be had in the 3rd round.
W. Centers it really boils down to preference & what you already have in place. I rarely if ever anoint centers as 1st round worthy or elite level b.c the type of centers I like typically get moved to different positions. I like 2 way Centers who are able to win 1 on 1 match-ups both against the run & the pass, quick out of the blocks & good natural leverage. From there I'm looking for a a signature strength that they can bring to the table be it get off, drive blocking, reach blocking,Lateral movement or pass pro. With Biadasz I see elite level reach blocking but he isn't great isolated. For some they'll see the athleticism, body type, not worry about being isolated & move on. And thats fine. Humphrey I believe is 1st round worthy & has a chance to be very special; The same way Mangold was. You simply don't find alot of Centers who are asked to be isolated on every single play..much less at a school like OU like he is & dominate. Watching Mangold in college you could tell he was special but even he was never isolated 1 on 1 as often as Creed & no way he had as good of an anchor. We've got a QB who needs a clean windshield from the interior OL to get good base under him which sets up all of his play making capabilities. You put this kid in at Center & thats no longer an issue.
Thanks for the summary. I'll keep this note when I'm watching centers in future years. Would you say this is the best center class in a while? I feel like there hasn't been many good centers the past couple years and it still sort of remains with Rodney Hudson, Fredericks and Kelce at the top and that's really it. Ryan Kelly from Indianapolis in 2016, maybe.
Yeah I'd say it's the best in awhile. Not sure it's loaded w. elite types beyond the 2-3 guys we are already mentioning..but there's quite a few guys who are capable of starting & being very good players in the NFL. I still really love the Kid out of North Texas as a sleeper. He's got alot of raw tools & would not be shocked in the least if he's a pro bowler in 3 years. But there are countless others.

@joe Your boy Trey Smith looks good tonight. Seems a little bit raw with his technique and doesn't really know how to combo block but man is he powerful. He's pass blocking dudes with one arm. And he moves well. He looks like he's going to be a stud run blocker at left guard. Dare I say a little bit lazy with his hands because he can be due to the power in his punch? I like him though.
