Now that Jared Allen has been traded, how does this change the 5th pick?

Exactly what I was thinking. Looks like the Chiefs got the Vike's 1st rounder (17th) and their 2 3rd's. They should easily be able to draft an o-lineman with 17, so they'll be looking for Allen's replacement @ 5. Well, at least the Pats won't get him...

I smell a rat. This whole trade just doesn't make sense.

All off season the Chiefs have been releasing players, I have to assume for cap purposes. Now they are going to trade their star DE, who is a very good one, for an unproven rookie, who is probably going to cost them more money?

Just doesn't make sense........Unless they already had a deal in place for their pick. Say with NE.

Considering that the Jets and NE have very similar needs at 6-7, and would probably want the same player, no matter who is on the board at that time it would probably be the same player NE wanted. Only sense I can make out of it.

Hello doesn't anyone else think it would be retarded of the chiefs to trade their BEST DEFENSIVE player only to draft his freaking replacement with their first rounder this year? that seems rediculously stupid and unjustifiable to the fanbase. If they needed a defensive end, they shouldnt have traded their DE in the first place. so from a PR standpoint, I dont think they can afford to draft DE in round 1, maybe in the later rounds, but not early on.

Or am I the only one with this train of thought?

I think you are looking too into things. I don't smell a rat, the article talked about the GM/Allen relationship as being strained...it basically made it seem like he would not be there long anyway so it just made sense to trade him now and get max value for him and now they have 13 picks. I don't think NE has anything to do with this although now it does make it interesting because most likely KC will have offers for that pick depending on who is there

Honestly, if we got any of Gholston, C Long, DMC or M Ryan I think we have a prob bowler for many years to come. Out of those four Ryan is probably the biggest risk and would take the longest to provide a real benefit to the team.

With that being said, as long as one of the teams ahead of us takes Dorsey, I think regardless of where the chips fall we will get one of those four guys and New Yorkers should be happy.

The tough spot to me is the following
    2. St Louis - C Long or Gholston
    3 Atlanta -M Ryan
    4 Oak - DMC
    5 KC - C Long or Gholston
6 Jets - who do we take now...both def ends are gone, the rb is gone and the qb is gone. We dont need Dorsey because of K Jenkins pluggin the middle. At this point we trade down but to who.....this would have to be the worst case scenario for us.

I don't think so. I think either Panthers or Ravens will try to get up to #6 to grab Matt Ryan. If this is how things play out, I wouldn't complain frankly. If Jets can grab 1st and 2nd for their #6, I'm all for it.

From what I have heard on the Allen trade is that he has gotten into some off the field trouble that could land him a suspension. Just what I overheard on the radio today.

It depends on what his off field issues are.

Allen gets a new 74 million dollar deal with 31 guaranteed. Long 57 million and 30 guaranteed.

Already, the Jets off season deals are starting to look like bargains. I thought it would take at least a year before they did.

I think Chris Long and Gholston are going 4 and 5, in either order, with the Chiefs planning on getting their O-lineman at #17. Which means McFadden for us.
