How far did RR really bring the Jets? Jets Record in the 5 years before Ryan: 2004 8-8 2005 4-12 2006 10-6 Wild card 2007 4-12 2008 9-7 Jets Record in the 3 years with Ryan: 2009 9-7 Wild card 2010 11-5 Wild card 2011 8-8 Ryan's record with the Jets is pretty good and better than the previous five years. He inherited some pretty good talent, including a solid OL which is one of the hardest units to assemble but is one of the biggest keys to success, so it's not like he took a bottom feeder team and won a championship with it. He's not yet proven to be the miracle worker his fanboys portray him to be, which is the problem when a HC makes predictions he shouldn't make.
Rex Ryan turned our defense into one of the most feared in the league and changed the culture around this franchise. You Bills fans should have first-hand knowledge of that.
"Changed the culture"? Inflated hopes leading to miserable failure, how is that change? I've been watching this same movie for 35 years for fucks sake.
That quote about being better than the Giants is absolutely awful. He sounds like a belligerent drunk in a bar who's about to get hauled out and dumped on the sidewalk by the bouncers. If I was a Jets fan, I'd be wondering how a HC finds time to write a book. Don't most HCs work like 60 hours a week during the season and cut back to 50 during the off-season? Maybe if RR paid more attention to his team and put his literary career on hold, he would realize that there were serious problems in the locker room. I see where even Revis is mentioning his lack of awareness.
Not really. Mangini had a good defense in 06 but it was the everyone move around and not set up until the ball is hiked. That got figured out quickly. Our defense was then okay in Mangini's last year with us. Rex comes in, Kris Jenkins gets hurt, and then we have a top 5 defense. The next year comes along and then Rex adjusts to everyone being ready for his blitzes and out schemes Peyton and Brady but blitzing very little but creating confusing zones. This year, he finally hit a wall with the lack of our safety depth and talent and teams abused us. We were able to get the better of some of the teams we played, but most of the problems was the defense being inconsistent like the offense and special teams. Oh and remember he did this all 3 years without a pass rush. We rarely if ever could generate a pass rush with 3 or 4 rushers.
Which (amongst other reasons) is why, as the season wore on, you weren't as feared as you had been. Look, I have no doubt that Ryan knows defense. He was weaned on it, fer pete's sake. But there's also some concern amongst many Jets fans that the whole Ryan package (the guarantees, the false bravado, etc.) overshadows the defense and creates unnecessary instability. You see that argument in some form on a lot of threads on this board.
Really? The Steelers, Texans, Niners, Ravens, and Bengals are much more feared than the Jets, primarily because those Ds play clutch. The Jets D, by their fans' own admissions on this MB, didn't do that this year, especially down the stretch when they needed 1 big stop in 1 of 3 games to make the play offs. The Jets had a good defense before Ryan arrived, although he did make it better. A lot of the pieces were already in place, however. The Jets' problems have been primarily on the offensive side of the ball, and Ryan hasn't fixed that at all. In fact, the offense has deteriorated significantly since about the middle of the 2010 season.
Just a tad overstated don't you think? The Jets, back perhaps in '09, had a feared defense. Then teams caught up with the overload blitz in '10 and we weren't so scary anymore. By 2011, our defense got slower and we started playing more coverage than pressure and the result was we couldn't generate OB pressure even while blitzing and paid the price.
I still believe even after what occurred that RR does not think a pass rush is a important facet in the D
I am saying your post is total hooey after what occurred in our L/room this past season. Maybe your parents should invest big $$$$$$$ in you so you can communicate with the world at large
I know that before Rex I had seen the jets have a chance at making a superbowl once in my life. Then I saw it twice in 2 years. I like the odds Rex gives me of actually seeing the jets in a superbowl over anything else the jets have done since 1969. Blowing up the whole operation every 3 years is never going to get us anywhere. You would think suffering fans might realize that by now.
I think U have to say that the league has long ago caught up to RR schemes so what occurred in RR 1st 2 years will not reoccur unless RR totally changes his mindset & come up with totally new schemes RR contract expires after the 2013 season as I have been stating so if we have a dreadful 2012 season then it is very dicey if Woody will reup RR since the UD STH will be deserting the UD in droves because who wants to pay many dollars to watch a losing FB team play
Compared to what Bob Sutton was putting on the field in prior seasons, yes, I believe our defense was feared under Rex Ryan(2011 notwithstanding, I'll admit we took a step back this past season). The guy worked wonders with basically no pass rush. Some of you guys have short memories.
Cmon man U R smarter then that but I guess being educated in Texas gives U a very good alibi UD= Upper Deck (No PSL) STH=Season Tix Holder
