I already know Geno sucks. If Simms also sucks then at least we know for sure. We already have a QB controversy and a QB who is losing confidence. Pull him for his own good.
You can't make the determination after one season whether a player sucks or not... especially when you consider how bad the talent surrounding him is. He's not what everyone hoped he'd be, but you don't give up on a 2nd round pick after one season because of impatience. There are too many other needs on the roster to just throw him out.
This is true but for the folks who thought we were going to the playoffs this year it won't matter. For the folks who trashed Geno from the start it won't matter. Those guys want him to fail so they'll be right. I'm guessing the Jets view things like you do but will be careful to have a Plan B in place next year in case things don't go well. You can't spend multiple years trying to make a 2nd round QB work. If he's not clearly ready to go next year they need to have somebody else who can do the job.
If we should have started Mike Simms it should have been earlier when we still had a chance of making the playoffs. Now everything is just mop up duty for Geno.
The Skins aren't going to trade RGIII, no way, not after what they gave up for him, but they would most likely trade Cousins for at most a 2nd rounder, and I'm interested in the idea of trading a 2nd for the guy honestly.
I heard similar commentary about Simms when people said put him in a game while its still winnable. Well they did and he didnt. Ant btw, his name isnt Mike.
This is exactly what needs to happen next TC, a fair an honest competition , not like the supposed trash we had this year. IF Sanchez is gone next year, my guess is that we will have Geno, a vet plus either Simms or another rookie QB. I'd love the Eagles to make the mother of all fuck ups and trade Nick Foles. I just wish the hormonally deficient members of our fanbase exercise some much needed patience. Sent from my wey aye phone using Tapatalk - now Free
One way or another, the Jets desperately need a veteran that could and should win the starting QB job next year. That improves the team infinitely while they transition to a better personnel group. The problem with keeping Geno and Simms, and then drafting say Johnny Manziel (not advocating for him, just using him as an example) is that you now have three guys that you have no idea where they are in their developmental curve, and all three have to face the same challenge that our QBs have been dealing with since Braylon Edwards and Damien Woody left the Jets: an alarming lack of talent on offense. So, pre-draft... I advocate that the Jets bring in a starter quality QB (not David Garrard - they won't even activate him during the season), and if the best player on the board when it comes time for the Jets to pick is a QB then so be it. The Jets shouldn't be going into next season with plan A being an unknown having to throw to unknown quantities, again.
I would have no problem with carrying four or even five QBs next year if we got both a veteran to start for us and picked up another developmental prospect in the draft. Going this route would hurt our special team or depth for one year but it would give us time to sort out the QB position, and have a true competition when we cut down to three QBs in 2015.
how many rings have they won for the jets? none! as for ufa, you are aware that one of the best receivers in jets history, wayne chrebet, was one ? he was more productive than Keyshawn Johnson, who was a first round pick. I was not a simms over McElroy guy, but fact is neither one of them got more than 2% of reps with starters in camp. I saw that with my own eyes. the so-called open competition was anything but.....
a good idea, which they should have done this year. but this is from a team that continued to start the turnover machine, and went into the titans game last year with only two qbs active, despite the fact they were not going to play tebow. so, in effect, kerley was the backup qb. :drunk:
mr nyjet makes a valid point. with geno's horrid play mostly all season you would think simms would have gotten some practices in with the starters. don't get this at all.
history may not prove he is any better, but he doesn't have several years of being a forgettable QB like Simms, so he has "upside," which has nothing to do with being the higher pick.
Difference being, Sanchez at least had someone to pass to. I must be one of the few Jets fans that can't stand the sight of ANY of our QBs, get shot of the lot!
Yeah Geno sucks. From everything we've seen so far Matt Simms would have at least 4 passing TD's and 2 rushing td's today. (Sarcasm)
Today was a nice win but I am not sure the result would have been any different if Simms had started.
