We played Mark because he was a 1st round pick. Tebow should play too because he was also a first round pick. The only QB pick that has been worse than Sanchez from the 2009 draft is Curtis Painter. That is debatable of course.
Woody owns the team. If he wanted Tebow to be QB then that's what would happen. If he wanted Revis or Mangold off the Jets then it would also happen. Rex & Tanny work for Woody not the other way around. This story just isn't believable or it's an extremely warped version of what Woody is really thinking right now.
BS. No one would ever call someone who has only bben on the active roster for four games a career backup. You have a crystal ball or something? I see you didn't mention Tom Brady, either. You know where he was picked? You know who Tom Brady is, don't you? He has a wikipedia page if you don't. Idiot? I am far more intelligent than you. No one in their right minds would refer to a player who has been active on the roster for only four games a career backup. Your saying you predict he will be a career backup is a dodge when you were called on it. You might check the posting rules here about personal attacks, btw, but i will say in general I can't stand people who get called on their shit, won't own up to it and instead whine on and on that you got called out. And of course it is the little caveat you put in there that i bolded which is precisely what the point is all about. See what he can do. That's all I ever said, and you Mr. Know it All "knows" already that is a waste of time. Like i said if you were a real Jet fan and not one with a Tebow agenda, you would know we have more to go with on McElroy than where he was picked in the draft. OF COURSE you would say pre-season doesn't matter. You are so predictable. Everyone knows McElroy is only third string, and third string Qb's rarely see the field. But most third string Qb's do not have two bad Qb's like MS and Tebow ahead of them. This team will likely have a different starting Qb next year than either MS or Tebow. Yeah, and it likely won't be McElroy, either. But it would be stupid to not see what he can do. And FTr among real Jet fans my view on this is hardly unique. Tebot.
I find myself in agreement with you from time to time, but here I think you might be leaving something out. In addition to wanting Tebow in there, Woody probably also wants it to look like a group decision, and so he may well be working on getting Tanny and Ryan in line. Who knows? It is speculation, but I do think Woody wanting Tebow is not the only variable here.
Chad didn't have an NFL arm, either, and half the fanbase here thinks he was the best Jet QB not named Joe Namath.
So far this season, yes -- Sanchez has definitely been worse than Cassel and Fitzpatrick. I'm taking more of a holistic view, since we're only 4 games into the year. Fitzpatrick and Cassel were both worse than Sanchez last year, and Cassel has been nearly as bad so far this season (and is probably going to lose his job to Brady Quinn in the near future). Fitzpatrick is playing at a high level right now, but I'm just not a believer. He started hot last year, too, then went to hell. He's on pace to throw 48 touchdowns and 28 interceptions right now -- one of those numbers is going to fall off pace, and I don't think it's going to be interceptions. We're also not talking UFA QBs when discussing seventh rounders -- that's not exactly apples to apples. The UFA pool consists of everyone to have ever played quarterback that didn't get drafted. Finding 3 or 4 examples of guys that panned out (Jeff Garcia, Jake Delhomme are the two other notables) from the list of literally 1000+ UFA QBs that have been cycled through rosters over the past decade isn't really an accurate representation of success rate. Especially since 3 of those 4 UFAs didn't come straight from college to the NFL. Warner, Garcia, and Delhomme all dominated other professional football leagues (Arena Football, CFL, NFL Europe) for years before coming to the NFL. With seventh rounders, we can narrow the profile down to a finite pool (28 QBs since 2000) and see just how unsuccessful they've been. Of course "some" 7th round draft picks and undrafted FAs do okay. But the point is that the overwhelming majority of them do not, at least at the QB position. You can say it's because they never get a fair shake, but whatever -- it doesn't really matter why. The point is just that they by and large do not turn into starters.
Lol, you've called me a clown, idiotic, a liar, a whiner, a Tebot, and that's just off the top of my head without looking back, and you have the balls to bring up personal attack rules? Whatever, dude. McElroy is never going to be a starter. You didn't call me out on anything -- you're just too dense to understand that "he's a career backup" doesn't mean HE HAS BEEN a career backup, it means HE WILL BE a career backup. What kind of useless statement would it be to call him a career backup based on a 1.5 year career? I'm obviously not suggesting he has "always" been a backup -- there is no "always", he's barely been in the league. What you're accusing me of doesn't even make any sense. Everyone else in the thread seemed to understand except you. You're not the Gang Green arbiter of truth, you're just the only guy that didn't understand a pretty basic sentence and has now spent a half dozen posts harping on a point nobody has ever made in the history of football discussions. And "FTR", among Jets fans, nobody cares about a quarterback drafted in the seventh round. Maybe a subsection of an online forum happens to be a little too bored to put Greg McElroy in his proper perspective, but the vast majority of Jets fans are not dying to see what the third string, seventh rounder has got. If Stanton hadn't demanded out, McElroy probably wouldn't even be on the roster.
On the contrary, Chad did have an NFL arm, which is why he was drafted in the first round and started 80 regular season games on two different teams, making the playoffs 4 different times and winning two playoff games over a successful career. He had a weak arm for an NFL QB, but he very clearly had an NFL arm. Chad Pennington has won 2 more playoff games than every 7th round quarterback drafted since the NFL adopted the 7-round draft combined.
What if making some kind of change like that does not send the Jets into the sewer? What if things start turning around like in Denver last year? We don't know what will happen.
Fine with me. Draft Geno, sign a vet backup that plays a semi-similar style (maybe Tarvaris?), and let's roll. Just please don't make me sit through Sanchez, Part Deux(che). If we draft Barkley, I'm moving to El Salvador and becoming a soccer fan.
I'll be happy if Tebow starts here's why 1. The end of Mark Sanchez 2. Tebow will bomb so that means we'll go into full out rebuild mode 3. New GM/Scouts 4. New Head Coach 5. New QB 6. New Era and New Identity
I'm going to disagree with you here. The last thing he needs is to get married, or engaged, be it to a celebrity or an unknown. hell, i wouldn't even suggest he have a serious relationship with any girl right now, look how Derek Jeter bounced back this year once his engagement to Minka Kelly ended. Derek was focused on the the ball and not the box so to speak. I fully believe that. Our QB should just coast with whatever hot girl he happens to feel like picking up, and simply do what he and the rest of the team are forced to do right now, and that is adjust, and improve, and quickly.
I want Geno as well but I think Barkley is being "under rate" he's got all the tools, I wish he was a little taller but then again Rodgers is 6'2 as well.
Remember guys, the ESPN circus is coming to town on Monday Night Football, they want as much stuff to talk about to get all time ratings for a possible blow out game!!!!
