Still just pre season, Let's not get crazy but one things for sure. Wayne Hunter at RT is gonna kill us a lot.
I'm not ready to throw in the towel but I agree with TC nothing is diff. OL sucks, no play makers on offense, no significant pass rush, bend don't break defense.. It's the same damn team.
I think there are plenty of reasons to worry about the offense but to tag the defense as "average" , or bend don't break because of one preseason game is unfair. The defense has never been average during Rex's 3 seasons here so there is no reason to think this years crew with a lot of new blood at safety and the additions of coples and Davis will be middle of the road. In fact last year the defense was the exact opposite of bend but don't break. They would be solid for most of the game and then breakdown and give up points. That's why they finished 5th in total d but much lower in scoring d and were disappointing compared to how they performed the two previous years. I'm actually pretty excited about the defense this year. I want to see where Maybin, Wilkerson, and Ellis are at year two in this system. Coples has impressed me so far. Having a big guy like that on the line can help in a lot of different ways. He can rush the passer, get his hands up and bat down passes, or stuff the run. I want to see if Davis can cover some of these tight ends and when he's not covering them I want to see him going after QB's on 3rd downs. Then there's the safety poistion which was a major need for this team and thy went and brought in two physical veterans and two rookies that are no doubt an upgrade to the talent and depth we had in here last season. So I wouldn't say nothing has changed but unfortunately little has changed personnel wise on the offensive side. I'm not worried about receiver much. I think with good line and quarterback play you can make some new stars out of your skill position players. However what I have seen from the line and Sanchez tonight didnt make me feel like the issues from last year would somehow be erased just because it's a new season.
Im sorry, but wasnt last year Schotenheimer the main whipping boy, this year it Wayne Hunter? Yes Hunter is terrible, but the mark of a bad QB, is when you need lots of excuses of why he is not doing good. Sorry, but Sanchize is not good. The quicker this is realized, maybe we can get a real QB, not Tebow. You people are delusional if you think getting a good right tackle would solve the problems.
you are wrong and all you have to do is look at the beginning of last season just before all hell with the O-Line broke loose.
I only know this, Mark Sanchez wasn't getting put on his back every 29 seconds when Damian Woody was anchoring the RT spot. It's amazing how your QB play falls off when he's thinking he's gonna get blasted off the right side on every other play.
you honestly think installing a good right tackle would make this offense good? Hunter sucks, obviously. But there are many issues on this offense. Bad QB, Bad WR, mediocore at best RB. How the heck is this team going to make plays. Not alot of taleneted playmakers. Not to mention this team wants to run a stone age offense. They will need the gimmicks BS to work.
Yes but are you saying that installing a decent starting quality veteran at RT wouldn't make a significant difference in the Jets offensive output?
No, it would not make a signifigant impact. We would complain about other things holding it back... innacurate QB play, WRs, with no seperation, medicore(at best) RBs. Horrible play-callling.
I really don't think so because these offensive woes started the minute Damian Woody decided to retire and the Jets never replaced him with someone of similar abilities. Then the sack count started to increase and soar with Hunter at the position. I don't think there's any question there is a direct correlation there.
As of right now you can't even really evaluate anyone else because the RT is crippling the offense. It's a joke. As for play calling - you aren't seeing the play calling we'll see in the regular season. Everyone jumping on Sparano already needs to relax. They aren't gameplanning the the offense is vanilla.
