I'm thinking about the near future of the team. I don't want to see us trade for a QB. I want a guy to be with the Jets from day one. I think Clemens is a total bust, Ainge is a project, and that only leaves one undrafted guy for the team. If we don't take Sanchez, I think later we'll be kicking ourselves when he turns out to be one of the best in the league, leading some other team to a championship
Sanchez reminds me of Leinart, he is coming from USC, look at who he was able to throw to of course he was going to look good. Plus I dont think he has the arm strength that us Jets fans long for, he relies more on the timing of routes. I would be pissed if the jets trade draft picks to move that far up to get him
Yup. Let's see what these guys can do with a good Oline and a running game. Let's get a WR before another QB.
I think Sanchez will fall to us anyways. If we have to trade up, I'd probably sit at 17 and just take Freeman.
I know Statford & Sanchez are the top 2 QB's.....with Freeman a distant 3rd. I'm just not willing to trade up for Sanchez at this point in time, maybe things will change by late April. There were some scouts that felt Sanchez was just OK at the Combine. I saw every throw of his at the Combine and he was medicore and missed the mark quite a bit. I haven't soured on Sanchez, just not willing to give up a 2nd Rd pick to move to #8. Sanchez still could fall to 17, it will be come much clearer in a month or so. The Jets would be stupid to draft a QB in a later rd, it serves no purpose with the 3 QBs on our roster....that one could emerge as our Future Long-term QB.
Dumb Can we at least give our current QBs a full year to see how they work out? This board is full of fans that have know concept of the word development. Who knows if Sanchez will be any good. We have other salient areas to address like WR and punter to address. And for those that argue Clemens was a bust keep in mind he played on a terrible offensive line and was under pressure most of the time. it sounds like Ryan will have a conservative run offense which will allow for development of our QB. We just need to go out a draft a speedy wide out who can catch the ball, someone more like Wes Walker than Lam Jones.
agreed, when a QB has the protection and WRs that NE has, of course he looked like a franchise QB. Pioli probably knew this which is why he got him an vrabel for a 2nd
Moron? Hey, why not all of us just don't post our thoughts, because idiots like you don't want to read them. F.U.
And to all of you who think I'm nuts in calling for the Jets to trade up to get Sanchez, watch the Jets do exactly what I'm saying they should do. I have little doubt in my mind that the Jets will indeed move up to draft Sanchez. And yes, they are going to let Clemens and Ratliff battle it out, but yes, they will also get a QB in the first round of this upcoming draft.
1. This issue has been beaten to death. That's why "this" issue is different from others. Sanchez a) has piss-poor footwork b) may have benefited from the USC system c) and weak competition. Name one USC QB that came out late, who is worth the dime. Hollywood Matt? Carson Palmer? Matt Cassel? You better learn to look at the past history of the product from the school. 2. On top of that, if it's a QB prospect with horrible mechanics and footwork, Jets ALREADY HAS IT. Why add another? Because he is from USC? 3. Trading up for "at best a 3-year project" QB? That's not how you win with draft.
Stating absolutes....get's people in trouble. Unless you are Tanny......which you aren't, you aren't sure about anything. Let's wait and see what happens!!
1. Sanchez displayed this best footwork out of any QB at the combine. 2. USC plays in a pro-style offense. If you're talking about his supporting cast, then that's kind of a stupid knock. Sanchez was the best rated quarterback in his recruiting class - he chose USC because he was the best, so he deserved to play with the best. 3. Carson Palmer is one of the better QBs in the league, when healthy. If KIMO didn't take that cheap shot, he may have won a Super Bowl. Matt Leinart has all the tools to be a big-time NFL QB. He hasn't had a fair shot yet. Matt Cassel went 11-5 after riding the pine for 3 seasons. I don't think he'll have any success in Kansas City, but he did a hell of a job for the Patriots.
