Nobody knows what Clemens upside is at this point but we've all seen the downside: poor decision making, lots of throws short into the ground probably out of fear of being picked, multiple drives with the game on the line and very few scores to show for it. I'm not opposed to going into the season with a Clemens/Ratliff QB competition to decide who runs the team, I just don't expect a lot out of either of them at this point. I'd rather have Ratliff win that competition mainly because I haven't seen a lot out of him yet to suggest that he's likely to fail if handed the job. Clemens has already failed once, in horrible conditions but still a failure. If the Jet's QB situation going into next year is a Clemens/Ratliff competition in camp I full expect them to win anywhere from 4 to 7 games in Ryans' first season. If they go out and hire a veteran QB to come in and run the team they might win 7 to 9. The only way I see them winning more than that is if Ratliff steps up in training camp and plays at the top 5% of his potential or if they draft somebody like Sanchez and he plays at the top 5% of his potential. Basically by hiring Favre last year and putting off the QB decision the Jets probably gave up 2009. Hopefully they'll do what it takes to make 2010 a more successful prospect.
gee i dunno maybe when teams arent worried if your running the ball it makes playcalling for the opposing defensive coordinator alot easier. are you serious?
Now that Cassel is in KC unless the Lions take Stafford & the 49ERS take Sanchez he will be there for us at 17 there is no need to trade up for him.
For someone who stresses building through the draft and developing your own talent so much I'm surprised you have this opinion. We have the o-line, the running game, and hopefully the defense. We also have 3 young QB's with experience in the system that we've been developing. Clemens' experience was behind an o-line that had 2 starters who couldn't even find a backup job in the NFL the following year. That's pretty damn bad and not really giving a young guy a good chance to succeed.
If I must trade up... i'm trading up to 9 to get Stafford... there is a possibility he will be there and if he goes past the Rams it will be fun to see teams calling Green Bay to trade up.
