We traded draft picks for Moss and Welker, and gave A. Thomas a pretty lucrative contract. We took a very aggressive approach this off season to get key players we felt would help improve this team. It actually goes as far back as the Branch trade... We traded branch and got a 1st rounder. We then traded the 1st rounder for next years 1st rounder plus a 4th this year. We then traded that 4th round pick for Moss. Essentially we traded Branch for Randy Moss + a 1st round pick. I was pleasantly surprised by the Patriots aggressive off season, since its never really been their style to go big in free agency and trades. Extending Warren was great to see as well, that locks our Dline up until 2009.
This is not really directed at not you tight: Thomas aside who was available to make the Jets an elite team what solid to really good/great 3 OL's and 2 DL's were available in FA? You think Pennington can make the throws that Brady made to Moss? Who were the stud DE's/NT's in the 3-4 that were available? The answer to all 3 is either no or Noone! This is a rebuilding team. Jesus they had a worse stinker last year in Jacksonville, way freakin worse, and they still finished up fine.
DbJ is dead on. It's week 1. Up against a super tight unit, with a guy that's been coaching longer than most of you have been breathing. They came out with a bunch of new toys, and that's how they wanted to approach their off-season - win now.
I expected the JETS to lose the same way in the opener to Patriots as they did in the playoffs. Let's face it, during the offseason the Patriots added more pieces to solidify there team greatly while the JETS were the JETS. Next week against the Ravens will be another test of how well we do against another Super Bowl contender and that game in my opinion might be worser than what the Patriots did to the JETS. Just looking at the JETS schedule, we should have five wins by our bye week.
I agree. The PATS are one of the three top teams in football -- and now there offense is scary good. We have 14 other games that are not against them -- and the next couple -- Ravens, Miami, Buff, Giants are ALL very winnable games. So -- lets not cut the whole o line (which is btw, the same as last years with one exception -- and he was good not great), lets keep the qb and the rb -- and go on from here. I really take nothing from this game except that the pats widened the gap. So what.
Why arent the jets much improved, especially in the trenches on both sides of the ball? Yes, i expected some improvement from the playoff loss last year. The FO didnt do a good job getting better linemen in here.
Thomas Chose to go to the Pats. Moss was reporting that he wanted only to go to the Pats in a trade. Welker? A nice receiver, who would be our third option at receiver this year. Not a ground breaking signing. Thomas would help for sure, but the Jets problems are not skill players, but the lines. Randy Moss does not give Chad more time to throw or Jones/Washington more room to run. Jetcane is dead on here. Coleman looked like our best linemen on D in what I saw, but he created no pass rush, jsut like the other two. Our Oline, well there is little to say about how bad they played. Is it a one game thing? Was it just the best front sever in football dominating us? Who knows at this point. One thing is sure they need a lot of work.
if the CS had the team underprepared for this then they should fire each coach. theyve had 5 weeks to prepare for this game. if the jets should be overprepared for any game, it should be week 1. we were outplayed and overmatched by a much better team. thats the fact.
