I don't see how this makes us thin at DL. These guys will all be used, I'm just advocating giving Pouha more time at NT than he is currently getting, and rotating the ends a little more. Hell, it'd even be nice to sprinkle in a little 4-3 every so often, with Ellis, Robertson, Pouha, and Coleman. We're not getting the necessary production from our linebackers so we need to give the DL more of a shot to get the job done.
Well I think for one, Pouha probably doesn't have the gas tank to play as a starter for a full game so using him more isn't going to help our depth
Do you prefer what we're seeing right now? Depth is not the issue here, production is. The way the Jets as a whole are playing right now, we may as well have second stringers in there right now. The least Mangini can do at this point is to try and shake things up a little bit.
Honestly that would only be a very short term solution to me. We need to be able to win the war in the trenches and honestly just sticking Pouha in there isn't a long term solution. Honestly I don't know what Mangini can do about this, we are so bad on the dline that even when we blitz it is useless. To shake things up it may help but honestly I don't give it much hope for success.
Jets need to do something... the offense needs to stay on the field longer, and stop waiting to be behind to start scoring. The defense needs to start consistently getting penetration, sacks, and turnovers. If a personnel change won't do this, then something has to. Otherwise, this season is a total waste.
The defense has no pass rushers, end of story. They do not have a single guy who will beat someone else one on one and cause a double team.
This game was winnable assuming Chad just took the team down the field 3 times for a TD during the game. Relying on FG's is a sure way to lose in the NFL.
a lot of darksiders here which was not my intent initially. my days of laying in to the team are pretty much over - unless we really strike oil and the bottom falls out. All teams rebuild in the offseason now. there isn't one team that can go into an offseason without 2-3 positions that do not improvement. its just the way the league is these days. TBS, great strides and falls can be had on a yearly basis or at least during a 2 year span. bottom line - solidify ceertain positions for the future, make personnel decisions now. each guy is on a level field with 12 games to play. yes it sounds like giving up but come on. funny thing is the team will get better in spots and the same geniuses will come out and say "see, it wasn't that bad, we only need to address this and that" horseshit - this has turned into an overhaul in the making and the sooner the jets do it the better the future is. jil
Before the Buffalo game, I still thought we had 10 wins in us. Now I think we have 5 more, 6-10, and it sucks. All my enthusiasm and optimism have been sucked out of me. Just get Clemens in, so they're selling his jersey at the London game in 4 weeks and I can sport it proudly.
Yup. I've been a huge Chad supporter (I'll not change the sig, however..) BUT, Yesterdays attempted comeback should be the last straw in the camels basket. The pick was no big deal, happens to QBs all the time, including the one on the out route. But when he needed to get down the field quickly, he just couldnt get down there. No Big chunks of yardage, to save time on the clock. (And for those hanging all of yesterday on Chad, the Offensive play calling in the first half was offensive.) The stregnth of the Buffalo defense is their front line, so we'll just run into it, and try to wear them down late AYFKM????? Had they come out throwing, and throwing and then throwing some more, before running into the line ad nauseum, maybe we arent F*d over a missed FG.
Hobbes I know you have been a huge supporter of Chad. My biggest gripe last year and this year is how we start games so close to the vest. We simply make bad defenses way to comfortable. The trademark of Bill Walsh and his desciples who run the WC O was to open games with a highly scripted, well practiced and perfectly executed 15 to 20 plays. Those teams attacked imediately, played with a fast tempo and almost always put defenses, particularly weak defenses on their heels from the first Offensive snap of the ball. This is something we just don't do. We didn't do it last year either we probe we look for weaknesses and we take what's offered, we don't dictate.
I agree. You realy have to wonder what the CS was thinking this week.... Buffalo's defensive stregnth is upfront, so what did we do...? Screw around the LoS for the first 30 minutes. I know Chad is going to turn into Darryl Lamonica, but they really needed to be attacking away from the line, and making them run down field, before trying to tire them out.
