Wilson is definitely starting the year next year even if he continues to suck the rest of this year. There's really no way he doesnt return as the starter, something catastrophic would have to happen, like he turns into nathan peterman and throws 3-5 int's a game, which I do not foresee. There's a chance he gets benched at some point next year if he doesnt improve, but for sure he starts he year as a starter. To say he's done 4 games into his career is a little extreme lol.
If the Jets drafted another QB at the top of the 2022 draft it would be the career equivalent of Joe Douglas stepping onto a busy freeway as he lit his gasoline soaked body on fire and lifted his foot from an active landmine. You are as in love with a bare bones rebuild as some of the Wilsonites are with off-platform throws.
I think Brad just wants to go with the 2020 Arkansas State approach where they rotated quarterbacks on each drive and threw the ball all over the yard regardless of who was in. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/arkansas-state/2020.html 3900 yards, 37 touchdowns and 8 picks between those two studs.
Both had pretty similar takes on that NE game. Could argue one is better than the other, but certainly both know what they are talking about when it comes to QB evaluation.
All the guys slamming Brad for his comment about next year would have a lot more credibility if they didn't let a whole week and a breakout game elapse before making those comments. Did you guys just miss it for a week somehow?
That was my favorite throw of the game. 3rd down in OT with the game on the line. He reads the corner and takes the big play but the throw has to be perfect. Such a big time throw. He misses that throw likely we lose. Give credit to Cole for tapping both feet. The bomb to Cole was arguably a much harder throw but this was so pretty, on 3rd down with the game riding on it. Nice too see a Jet QB step up in crunch time. Hopefully, it is a first of many.
It's not a big deal and young quarterbacks throw interceptions. And he played an incredible game the rest of the way. But I'm lost as to how anyone can say this is the right read? The corner is playing off zone coverage with inside leverage and the ball is thrown to an in breaking route. Look at Fulton's pre snap alignment. That play screams check with me at the line of scrimmage with Davis/Wilson communicating the deep out where it's a me or no one catch. Regardless, it's being nitpicky to be overly upset with it especially because there's a good chance it's just a dropped pass if Davis doesn't fall. But let's be realistic. And who cares what Saleh says? Use your own eyes.
The reason he’s getting slammed is because he is crediting the defense with the win when it was the offense that made the difference. Jets came back from 17-10 deficit to tie the game then the offense put Jets ahead 24-17 and the defense gave up the tying TD to Titans. The offense should have won it in OT had the play selection by Lafleur was a little smarter, however defense did their job. We all like Brad and respect his opinion, however when any poster starts to act like DWC with their extreme perspective it’s fair to question the reasoning behind such extremes. This was a team win, that’s what we should desire as Jet fans, all three facets of the team contributing consistently to win games, no matter if we dislike any specific player.
That was exceptional, esp for rookie. I was watching, we only needed 2 yds, but man he laid it right in his hands across the field. It was big play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That was his best throw of the game IMO. Like you said, 3rd down, in OT. An absolute dime when we needed it the most.
I think what Wilson saw was Fulton's hips open up towards the sideline and knew Davis was running an in. He thought Davis would be able to run a sharp enough route to cross Fulton up and get some separation but Davis got a little sloppy with his footwork and tripped. Definitely wasn't a great read but I don't think it was a bad one either.
Well let me clarify - it's not necessarily the complete wrong read but he threw the ball to the wrong spot given the leverage. He lead him across the field into where the corner was. That ball should be more towards where Davis cuts and ultimately slows than lead into a drag across the field. So maybe the read is fine but he threw it to the wrong spot for sure.
I disagree. If he threw the ball where you said he should have, Fulton has a shot to intercept or at least lay a huge hit on Davis, possibly getting him injured. With the spot where Zach threw the ball, Fulton would have been behind Davis or on his hip and Zach would have been leading Davis away from Fulton. Either way however, it's the problem with timing routes. They can be very successful, but they can also be disastrous all too easily. I've never been a big fan of them.
That almost feels like they were trying to force the ball into the middle of the field to set up another perimeter run. The play before that was an outside run by MC1 for 2 yards. Third drive so it may have been the first unscripted drive.
Obviously we can have this conversation a bit later in the season when more evidence has piled up one way or the other. I'm pretty sure that Zach Wilson has to look like a competent NFL QB for the Jets to take a top of the draft QB off the table in 2022. So far he has had two competent halves out of eight and his overall numbers are atrocious. If you remove those two halves they are bottom line terrible. It's possible that he can have a terrible season and the Jets can give him a Jared Goff mulligan. However that didn't really work out in the end for the team that gave Goff the mulligan. BTW, I think the Jets chance for a win in London is pretty good. The Falcons suck and their QB is 36 and probably not going to be on top of his game against the Jets pressure and after the travel and time dislocation.
If there was a Kyler Murray coming out next year maybe I’d say there’s a 5% chance. I’m sticking with 0.000% myself.
There might be if Matt Corral or Rattler light up the board the rest of the way but neither have performed well enough at this point to be that sort of prospect. Corral is going to be a very intriguing prospect that'll likely put up monster numbers by the end of the year. But either way, the Jets are staying with Wilson minus catastrophe.
