I'd say the reason for this is the lack of attention to drafting offensive skill players over the past 10 years. Outside of Mark Sanchez and Stephen Hill, they haven't taken anyone in the first three rounds at the main skill poisitions. It is pretty rare and hard to expect guys drafted late to be Pro Bowlers. Prior to 2004, there wasn't a great need for skill position players. From 1996 - 2003 they hadKeyshawn, Chrebet, Moss or Coles as their starting receivers. Vinnie (who did make the Pro Bowl) was replaced by draft pick Chad Pennington who was close to playing at that level. Again, no need to draft a QB until 2009 when they chose Sanchez. In 1997, they signed a Hall of Fame bell cow running back in Curtis Martin who was everything we could of wanted. He was followed by Thomas Jones who also played well. Now, running backs are just not drafted as high and they have filled the position with a 4th round pick along with a trade and a free agent. Tight End counts to me as skill poisition. The team has invested four #1 picks on that position since 1993 and none of those guys chosen have come close to being what we expected. Again, it's really been the last decade where the lack of focus on the offensive side of the ball at receiver has cost them.
Lack of focus an direction for sure. The switches from "Ground and Pound" to "Air Sanchez" to "Aggressive Attacking Offense" really never materialized into anything and we never really got the personelle to back up any of those changes in philosophy. Also - Chad never making the pro-bowl is a crime.
Lol I guess I'm not the only one to think that way. I hope he does't score on us much if they end up signing him.
IMHO U & all others are deluding yourself. The reason is really quite simple the NYJs have hired incompetents over the years who have drafted shit players which is why we have NOTHING within all the years U have been a NYJ fan
I remember that headline..I was in 8th grade and that day was walking on air. Can't believe so many years and terrible managers. Who would you like to run the Jets today?
It really is insane that we haven't drafted a pro bowl skill position player since 1996.Its almost unbelivable but it is infact true.I seriously hope Idzik is thinking about trading up to take a shot at drafting Ebron.Ebron has pro bowl potential
insane yes but we have hit paydirt when the wind is blowing correctly (moss, coles, l. washington) but the examples are way too few and far between. the scouting department should definitely carry a black eye with this one.
that may be true about ebron but to trade UP for a tight end is a bit risky especially in the 1st round. very very unlikely to trade up next week and more likely to trade down. the difference between ebron and the other TE's like amaro/asj is not worth the risk nor the amount of draft slots u would have to jump for ebron.
Myself & my son. I guarantee a World Championship within 5 years & will produce it not like empty promise RR
I'm kind of unpersuaded by the whole point of this thread. The fact is teams are not limited to the draft in picking players. It doesn't matter all that much HOW a player comes to the team. Since 96 the Jets have had some quality offensive skill position players, like Testaverde, Martin, Coles, Moss, LT, T Jones. Some would add Chadwick there, who was a draft pick, but the point about the others remains. I am not sure why it is so important that none of those guys were draft picks.
I cannot do any worse then the knuckleheads hired by Woody & Leon up to now. BTW have you ever seen a NYJs World Championship since U have been a fan?
CJ69 and son are now 0-5 in bringing a NYJ championship to the NY/NJ/CT metro area...... all in fun of course <g>
Well since my son & I had no power 5 years ago even if you post is in fun in is valueless. BTW from the time U became a NYJ fan how many VLTs have they won?
Haven't like 10 people already mentioned Coles, Moss and Washington? This forum should really come with an English test.
