2002 ????????????????????????????????????? NE GB Indy tell me again how flat that Offense was????? And you are wrong about their skills. The only difference is their Arm Stregnth......And that matters, but its not everything.
between the inasanity that hobbes was posting on page 4 (havent gotten to 5 yet) and this very statement i feel this thread needs a time out. there is no way, NO WAY that chad is the starter in 3 years, let alone 5. how do you call someone who bases themselves in reality a chad hater? im sure it all well and great on your block in candy land, but in real life chad just isnt the bees knees.....
keyshawn isnt head and shoulders better than coles. coles is faster, even now, then keyshwan. vinny had the chem with key that chad has with verney.....
EXACTLY! Outside of NYJ fans in 15 years FB fans other then NYJ fans will be saying WHO when asked about Chad Pennington? No different then all the old NYJs Hackett Still Sucks is posting & asking for opinions. I would say even now since Marvin J is retire just like 5 years if you asked 100 FB fans that are NOT NYJ fans at least 95% of them would never even know who is unless they are draftniks & remember his reviews coming out of college
Keyshawn is three times the player that Coles is. (I love Coles, But Keyshawn) Go back and watch Video of the Ray Lucas era.
i was referring to coles keeping his speed longer, and even now, so many years after hes been playing hes been able to stay with it....it had nothing to do with the way you took it. as far as keyshawn being SO much better than coles....not really. keyshawn isnt one of those guys that jumps off the page and you think, "wow, hes a HoF'er"....keyshawn had good numbers, but lets not act like he was ever "THE reciever".... if i had to take one or the other i would take coles over KJ every time. through KJ first 6 seasons.... 482 catches, 6248 yds, 40 tds, 12.96 ypc verneys numbers (has played 6 years) 506 catches, 6599 yds, 31 tds, 13.0 ypc. keyshawn totally blows him out of the water huh?
instead of just shooting from the hip with worthless opinions, how about you watch and pay attention to whats on the field.... manning makes chad look like a girl physically on the field, and no matter how smart chad is, mannings smarter. as far as going on about tom moore and the indy FO giving him what he wants....how about a GM that drafts smartly and plays to the teams stregnths on offense. peyton didnt need james to win a superbowl....james is done, and indy knew it. they were smart in their approach and filled the need with addai (who played exceptionally well, especially in the playoffs) and rhodes who has been a pretty solid back up, or change of pace back. theres no longer any knock on manning, hes won the big one, and hes def a first ballot hall of famer. hes one of the greatest players to line up under center....and i hate admitting that because i hate him, b/c he should have been a jet....
im a little surprised that there havent been any replies after mine....guess its the holiday weekend....enjoy yours safely ladies and gents...
Coles right now is a better receiver than Keyshawn was while with the Jets. Defenses are afraid of Coles and they were never afraid of Keyshawn.
Defenses really weren't scared of Coles until last year though, and maybe his last year with us before the Washington trade. Coles still needs to prove he can play at the same level he did last year.
It doesn't bother me in the least, I have enjoyed Jets football without a Lombardi trophy for 39 years, 5 more is no problem. Chad has been slightly less productive than Ken O'Brien when healthy.
The toe really messed him up. If you look at his 2004 and 2005 numbers they just don't fit with the rest of his career. Even then he has 506 catches after 6 seasons as a starter! He has had 4 different opening day starting QB's over the last 5 seasons: Vinny in 2002, Ramsey in 2003, Brunell in 2004, Chad in 2005 and 2006. He has had 4 different last game starting QB's over the 5 seasons: Chad in 2002 and 2006, Tim Hasselbeck in 2003, Ramsey in 2004, Bollinger in 2005. I can't think of a receiver who has fought through the type of nagging injuries and the motley QB crew that Coles has had over his career and still put up numbers year after year. If you adjusted for all of those things he's probably a top 5 receiver and has been for most of his career.
AND, if we look at it from a draft/money perspective, coles was a steal in comparison to keyshawn. coles got caught up in the peter warrick fiasco at FSU and he took the fall for the bigger college name warrick. a 3rd round draft pick who in his first 6 seasons has been as or more productive than the first pick overall in keyshawn. coles is a much tougher reciever than johnson ever was, and the only knock on him over johnson was how tall keyshawn was. coles was faster, and showed much more toughness in going over the middle and doing what needed to be done to get the win. while coles was sometimes quoted as saying something that could look to be disruptive, keyshawn had the bigger mouth, and rarely delivered on his "promises"....remember the game in tampa when he put down wayne and chrebet caught the winning TD? for a number 1 pick, keyshawn was an average guy....he never did anything, other than writing a book titled "just give me the damn ball", that he will be remembered for. and im glad he looked like a fool on draft day saying that he was going to give the carolina rookie wide out some veteran knowledge, and getting cut 3 days later. thats how he deserved to go out...
Not that bad of a list. Switch 5 and 6 and you got my top 5 aswell. Once you get pass 10 its really anyones guess.
