I thought Bollinger was alright last year. I say keep him on the team this year -- he's cheap, and he can still play. I'm all for an open competition in camp this year.

That said, if we draft a QB, I'm fine with that too. Bollinger is obviously a cut if they draft a qb though, no way we're carrying four qbs.

Johnnysd - Nice post. You obviously spent time digging up the info and presenting it clearly. Don't you just love it when you put the effort into making what you feel is a well thought out post, and then it gets blasted by one sentence deragatory replies. I have to laugh when I see the threads " Calling out new members" or whatever it was and all I can think about is why anyone would want to post just to get replies like "worse thread I have ever seen", etc..

As for Brooks, I thought he did ok as he was given more than just page one to work with. He made some throws that Chad couldn't and he certainly made his mistakes too. Chad may have been able to calculate in his head exact throwing force necessary and what angle to throw the ball based on cross wind velocity, etc.. but Brooks could scramble and throw while Chad was on his back calculating the rest of the equation. At this point we have serviceable Qb's and maybe nothing more. If the FO believes we need to pick up a QB in the draft, I am ok with that and will leave it up to them to determine if pick #4 is what should be used.

I don't know how we lost a game last year with Brooks, if only we didn't cut Ricky Ray, then we would have won the super bowl.

Like all the rest that Bollinger competed with in camp, they are gone. Bollinger was Paul Hacketts draft pick, probably against Herm's wishes, so when Hackett left Bollinger became Herms albatross but no one could beat him in camp. A knee injury in preseason at NO set the stage for Quincy and the "Chad on a cross" game in Pittsburgh. If Bollinger starts or relieves CP the kicker never gets two chances to lose and the Jets go to the SB. You say he has moxy on the basis of last season, consider the salt it takes to stay healthy and in contention through 3 TCs and preseasons, stay focused when your coach treats you like Radio and your O-line belongs at Radio City with the Rockettes. To support the team no matter what was said and not say a discouraging word when the D let down or when the run game shut down or the coaches had a breakdown. To hear fans, using all their vocabulary, spout "Bollinger sucks" when the numbers in the game don't support their wisdom or their "hope to lose" mentality. Now that takes more than moxy. But it's a business and almost all decisions are business decisions. Moxy don't feed monkey but a 1st RD. prima-donna or a Namath/Farve wannabe might. Good post.

    jonnyd, great post.

I am a big Bollinger fan, and have been for the past few years. I said numerous times during pre-season games in the past that BB had a lot of talent, and deserved a chance to play with the first team. After seeing him get the chance this past year, he showed that he can handle actual game situations.

Do I believe he could beat out Penny and Ramsey for the starting job? Not really. Do I think he could compete for it? Yup.

Amazing how so many people around here just answer with things like "This is just dumb." when they don't agree. You laid out your point, and it was a good one. People don't agree, but yet, they can't give any substantial evidence why their opinion is better.
