The ump is squeezing Wagner, and now he's giving up long hits. He really has to make you sweat, doesn't he?
Yep, he fails in the clutch 100% of the time when he makes out. The guy had a huge 2 out hit in the 7th, but I guess like A-Rod hits that one didn't count.
Endy should definitely start tomorrow against Kuo - he might have a prayer against the lefty, and his defense is miles better than Green's. Of course, it's possible that Floyd will sit instead.
Nomar's 2 run double is the exception, not the rule. There's a reason that he was unceremoniously run out of Boston. The Dodgers desparately needed this game with Maine on the hill so all credit is due to the Mets for denying them. Going up 1-0 behind the worst pitcher in your rotation is a pretty huge advantage.
I agree 3rdand15. Bench Green, put in Chavez, and give them a chance to put the game away earlier. But I'll take this one anyway!
Steve Trachsel pitches game 3 for the Mets. The way I see it it's the Dodgers that are playing with house money the first couple games and the Mets absolutely need to take these first 2. And it seems to me that Nomar was "run out of Boston" because he was always injured and playing like crap in general, not failing in the clutch.
The breaking point was his lackadaisical response to pressure--for example, the enduring vision of the Nomar era for me is the Yankees/Sox 14 inning game where Jeter busted up his face diving into the stands and each team used just about every pitcher in the pen and player on the bench. Except for Nomar, who was taking a day off. They showed a shot of the Red Sox dugout right before Flaherty won the game, and every single coach and player was standing on the top step except for Nomar, who was sitting by himself in the back as if he didn't realize that the game was on the line.
