Actually, if you feel this way you should root very hard this year, since the payroll will undoubtedly be at least 30-50% higher next year. Personally, I've never complained about the Yankees payroll, and I won't complain about the Mets payroll either. I personally think that baseball should have some sort of cap, but if they don't your team should spend whatever it can afford. It's not "fair," but it's reality.
Mota appeared in 17 games for the Mets and in 16 of them he pitched an inning or less, you don't start running guys out there for their 2nd inning in the 7th of a playoff game when you haven't been doing it all year. But yes, the inexcusable part is letting him pitch to Nomar when Heilman was already up in the pen. If Mota's spot hadn't come up in the bottom of the 6th(with the bases loaded no less) I'd probably agree that you let him start the inning. But when you have a chance to step on a team's throat you have to take it. Edit: And yes, if Wagner blows it it's 100% on him
I was on the train then so I didn't see that, and forgot about that when I posted about Mota pitching the 7th. Im not ABSOLUTELY sure that you have to pinch hit for Mota (since he pitched well in the 6th), but on balance I agree that that would have been the smarter move. Pitching Mota to Nomar was just off the charts ridiculous.

That was pretty much an impossible throw to make, if it was right on target like that throw was it hits him in the back, if it was off to a side i don't think wright can make the tag in time.
