It's just icing on the cake at this point but it's really a testament to the awfulness of Buck and McCarver that they can be accused of being idiotic, annoying homers for BOTH teams at the same time.
Buck is the Cards' regular play by play man, isn't he? Always helps to have a dad in the business, too.
I don't know, I think that is kind of humorous. that being said, the Mets are good enough to win both games in NY. That is what they played all season for, home field advantage, and they have it. whether they can come out loose and play like they are capable of is another matter.
I am interested to hear what all of the people here who've been saying that Buck and McCarver have obviously been rooting for the Cardinals have to say about this. Personally, I didn't really think that they were rooting one way or the other yesterday, and I still don't. Fans hear what they want to hear, I guess.
I will admit that sports media has a east coast bias, first off the FOX strike zone thing is terrible, most of the pitches were outside according to that thing, and secondly McCarver one thing he said pro-Mets, can't outweigh many, many crap that he said pro-Cardinals. According to him and Buck, La Russa is the greatest manager of all time without mistakes, the Mets are so terrible that they have to pull our starters after 0.1 innings and Willie should be tarred and feathered if not, Pujols is the greatest batter who ever lived and he is a saint, and Spiezio is Mr. October, just to name a few, they have been blowing Cardinals the first chance they could get and haven't stopped since
For the record, I don't think the announcers are really biased, just morons. As fans of the Mets the ridiculous comments they make about the players are much more apparent, as the comments about Cards players stick out to Cards fans.
Normally I'd agree with you, but with these 2, no while they are morons, they are both tied to the Cardinals in some way, and both definite seem happy whenever the Cards did ANYTHING positive, now I normally wouldn't call national announcers homers, but instead call them idiots like you said because they wouldb't focus on one side or anything but instead either have no focus in their idiocy, or focus on the big story around the game if there was one (e.g. T.O. playing in Phila for the 1st time), however they have been on La Russa's jock the ENTIRE series, try to bury Willie any chance they get and have force Cardinal complements down our throats, and I quite honestly am sick of it
I've watched a lot of the series, and I think you're using something that we call "selective memory" in Marketing classes  You remember all the moments in which the announcers go hard on the Mets, but dismiss the reverse of that because you are specifically looking for instances in which they are critical of the Mets. I dunno, just thought I'd toss that in there. Everyone does that.
I think it's exactly that, fans hear what they want to hear. But I would like to point out, they were practically giggling when Duncan hit that HR last night.
That's true, but it was my impression that that was actually about Dave Duncan being there on the bench at the time (human interest and all that). I agree with 3rd - what is much more noticeable to me than any bias is how often they are just wrong about Mets players on simple questions of fact (and I expect it's true of Cards players too).
McCarver and Buck come off as amped up Mid West Bumpkins. Perhaps it?s that persona that makes us as New Yorkers view them as Cardinal fans?
OK, after a lot of venting to people and message boards, I'm cool now. I'll keep this short and sweet. And I have to paraphrase an old wrestling interview. I'm watching this game for two reasons. 1) To see the Mets kick ass 2) And drink beer. (GULP...) And I am now officially out of beer. LET'S GO METS and let's kick the crap out of St. Louis tonight!
I dont care if theyre anti mets or pro cardinals or whatever.....but as an impartial observer here, there is no question that those two toolbags are pro-redbird. they are two midwestern jerkoffs and are anti new york, no doubt....macarver did suck a little met dick when he was here but thats over with now...he loves the cards boy....and Buck, well hes the biggest homer shithead in the world...I cannot stand him....I miss costas doing these games
FTR, Buck is not the biggest homer. If you think he is, you have never heard Ron Santo call a Cubs game or Ken "Horrible" Harrelson call a White Sox game
After that game, I was really ripping into the announcers in this thread for that. Saying that he gave the Mets what they needed and was excellent was moronic. He was TERRIBLE. No one needs that kind of start. He was simply dreadful and he's lucky he wasn't the goat.
buck grew up a cards fan and calls Cards games and mcCarver was a Cardinal and was fired by the Mets. it's not hard to figure out who they want to win the series.
