objectively looking at matchups and how each team has been playing isn't "quitting on the team". the mets have been thoroughly outplayed in this series so far and even if the offense gets sorted out it's going to be an uphill road with the pitching matchups.

Glavine was simply out pitched. If you look at his last couple of games he was throwing first ball strikes to every batter. Even though the plate was squeezed on him by the umpire, he didn't set the umpire or the batter up for opening the strike zone early. He was simply up and outside way to often early in the count and it cost him. The umpire behind the plate didn't do a very good job over all but Glavine made it too easy for him early in the counts. To get a wide strike zone the pitcher has to establish his control and Glavine didn?t do it.

Wright has been the killer in this series. He doesn't even look like he's close to being on the ball. If he can turn it around at home the Mets have a great shot. This is not over a two game home winning streak is very doable. The Cards have outplayed us but they still look like a tight team that could unravel. They just don?t look like a confident team to me and as bad as the pitching matchups appear, the Cardinals are far from sending Bob Gibson to the mound in game 6 or 7.

Sure, the Mets are the better team, but they certainly haven't looked like it this series. And although it's easy to point to the poor offense in a couple games, the defense and pitching has been below average for most of the series as well. The Mets have had 2 chances to take a very strong lead in this series and have blown both of them. Maybe with their "backs against the wall" the switch goes on and they start playing well, but I can't say I'm expecting it.

I am pulling for the Mets but my money says that they can't win tonight with Maine pitching, much less win the next 2 games, if Trachsel is the go-to for game 7.

Enjoy the fact that they got this far into the playoffs but their goose is pretty much cooked.

That being said, as a NYer I'd love for them to win it all, but I am also a realist.

We may as well forget it. Yes there's a chance, but Isiah Thomas had a chance to do a good job with the Knicks. Carpenter vs Maine and Suppan vs whoever? With the toothpicks we're swinging? We're done, finished, don't let the door hit you... and I have to deal with all these scumbag Cardinal fans at work. I need to say a few things.

Fuck this team, fuck all of St. Louis, and fuck this season. If we lose in the NLCS, we are failures. End of story. I am embarrassed to be a Mets fan this morning.

Wow, a Met and Jet fan, Knicks too?

I figure that if you're going to let your team kick you in the nuts, consistently, you should at least go for the trifecta.

cmon fellas, it is a 2 game winning streak at home. This series is not over. You guys make it seem like the Cards are throwing Koufax & Clemens in 6 & 7. Carpenter is good but the Mets already knocked him around this series & he is just not that great on the road. Suppan already shut the Mets down, what are the chances that Jeff Freaking Suppan will shut the Mets down twice in a 7 game series. Not likely.. Win this game tonight & they will win the series.. This team will not quit, they have proven that throught the season. Wright is due for a breakout game, tonight is the night..

My reaction exactly. If the result of the Mets' tremendous success this year is going to be a new set of fans with the ridiculous sense of entitlement that the team is a failure if they don't get to the World Series (kind of like some fans of a certain other baseball team), God help us all. Sometimes your team loses, and it isn't because they didn't try, or they choked, or even that they weren't good enough - they just lost. The fact that the Mets are still playing on October 18 means that they have had a damn good year, and anyone who can't see that is IMO just sucking the joy out of 6 1/2 fun months. More than a few people have noticed just how little joy the players and fans of that other team seem to get from their successes, which strikes me as just sad.

And even if the Mets were lazy, choking, dogs, what possible reason would there be for me to be embarrassed? It's not like I had anything to do with it.

The whole point of being a Mets fan is nothing could embarrass us.

Well this is the 3rd time we have been left for dead.

    Losing Pedro
    Losing El Duque
    Down 3-2

    We can do it.

Well said. I don't want to sound like I'm eulogizing the season already, but after watching 160ish Mets games this year I don't know how you could say "fuck that" based on a couple of game on October. If I ever got to the point where the regular season was little more then a formality I don't think I could watch much regular season baseball.

It's a very long season and all players have their ups and downs, just because someone struggles in October I don't think you can automatically label them a choker. As much as I may like to I don't think you can really pin this on Willie either, despite his missteps in Game 2.

EXACTLY!!! They had the tying run on 2nd base and they could not come up with a hit? That totally unacceptable.

Our backs are to the wall - we will win tonight.
Key to the game is Reyes, he needs to get on base every at bat. This drives the Cardinal pitching crazy which will produce mistakes by the Cardinals. Also wouldn't hurt if Wright came out of his slump.....

Wright's killing us a bit now.....notice Delagado didn't get much to hit last night....I expect more of the same until David makes em pay....the clock is ticking

Keep in mind I'm not bashing him or anything, but it seems the Cards finally figured it out that Wright 's cold, so don't let Delgado hurt ya

the bats gotta carry the day....and thus far that's only happened in one game

I'll be at Shea tonight, cheering and praying!

Note to D Wright..... STOP TRYING TO PULL EVERYTHING!!!

    Wright has been horrid.

But tell me, why with a 2-0 lead (Or at anytime..)are they even Pitching to Pujols?

The Guy is on a sore hamstring, they should put him on first and make him run thebases, and REYES should be pushing bunts up the first base line.

Make that bastard injure the hammy, and get him out of the game

Pujols needs to be put on his ass, without a question. MLB tries to project this image of Pujols as a squeaky clean, good guy, but his true colors have really been revealed in this series. First his ridiculous Glavine comments, which the FOX morons attempted to whitewash last night, and last night when Floyd grounded out he walks the ball to first base in another classless display of poor sportsmanship. I'll be disappointed if Maine doesn't knock him down in the 1st tonight.
