I wouldn't be confident either. But your definitly not done.. teams have come back from much worse than this.. believe me.. i know
This game was an utter embarrasement, the fact that this ump forced alot of our guys to swing at bad pitches had a major influence on the game. Either Fox and thier stupid pitch tracker is way off or this ump really had his dick in LaRussa's mouth......
Did you notice during the last two innings they seldom went to the pitch tracker????? Heaven forbid that McCarver state that the umps calls are horrible.
Of course the pitches didn't fall within the Fox strike zone. Those things are stupid because the strike zone is defined by the umpire and the hitter, not by an objective box. For example, what is a strike to Albert Pujols may not be a strike to David Eckstein because Eckstein is a solid 8 inches shorter.
I try not to bitch about officiating too much, but that was a 97 Florida Marlins strike zone all night. Inside, outside, up, down. The Mets showed good patience at the plate and forced the pitcher to throw strikes, but they didn't have to with the Ump calling balls strikes. not much you can do but hack away I guess, or go down looking at balls...the same sight I am sure the Ump had of Larussa last night.
I do agree that the stike zone was umpiring at home plate was pretty pathetic. It didn't help the Mets that the Cardinals pitchers tonight all specialized in big breaking balls.
from the 6th inning on only 2 batters for the mets didnt get a call strike 1 on the first pitch. total bullshit. men desperate times calls for desperate measures.
mets fans are gonna need to be involved in getting the mets to win this series... and they are gonna have to help maine when hes on the mound, and give him a positive surge PLUS THIS TEAM NEEDS TO BE PATIENT... stop swinging at everything
sure the balls & strikes call were an added challenge, but the mets managed two runs off Jeff Weaver. Glavine couldn't reproduce his last two outings and the Mets (David Wright, in particular) couldn't capitalize on some mistake pitches. disappointing loss, but this series isn't over. let's get to game 7 before we start wondering who will actually be on the hill
Funny that you mention HGH because when Glavine threw a 3rd strike down the middle but a bit to the corner he gave Pujols a free ball and then HGH proceded to hit the ball over the fence 2 pitches later..... The guy was squeezing the Mets and he was giving the Cards all the close pitches and the no so close ones, how that 2nd strike on Chavez was called shows that guy should be taken out back and shot
The Mets have scored 2 runs or less 3 out of the 5 games so far. They're probably pretty fortunate to even still be playing at this point given how they've performed. The Carloses get a pass but pretty much anyone else on the offensive side of the team you can safely point the finger at, starting with Wright and Reyes. Unless something miraculous happens on that plane ride back to NY or before the game tomorrow night I think this team has gone as far as it can go.
Note: I wasn't talking about the Mets. The Mets may not win this series (I guess I'll give the Cardinals a 50/50 shot; I think they blew their winning-at-Shea load already). I understand that. But I'm surprised by all the white flag wavers in this thread. Not the types I'd want with me in a foxhole.
yeah, any pitch close and with movement...and against the Mets, was a strike. with a fair strike zone, we're gonna put up some runs tomorrow. I'm a foolish optimist I suppose.
