i'd really like to see this game get played tonight, as pushing it back would open carpenter up to possibly start game 2. although if this happens with his numbers on the road this year it might actually be good for the mets.

wow, now I don't know what to do. Because it's a playoff game, they're probably not going to announce a cancellation early or anything.
So we'll probably just go to the stadium and sit there in the rain and wait until they decide whether they can get it in or not.
It's like what happened with the Yankees game. They didn't announce the cancellation until 10 PM.

baseball announced that there will be no postponement due to the Cory Lidle tragedy. There still could be a rain-out, of course.

Yep, heard it on WFAN. Cancelled due to rain, not Lidle tragedy.

the parking lots are packed. A lot of people paid $26 to park, got soaked, and then are sitting there trying to get out of the lot and home. This sucks for the people who went early.

What time is the game on Friday? Are they going to overlap it with the Tigers-A's, or are they gonna schedule this for 4:00?

Probably 4:00, but the game in Detroit could get rained out, meaning they'd play the tigers game then and shift the mets game to friday night.

word is that larussa isn't going to move carpenter up so he'd still be slotted to pitch game 3/7. here's willie's chance to prove he gets it. i think we can all agree that glavine on 3 days rest would be a disaster so pitch maine 1 and 5 and slot glavine in for 2 and 6.

I will go on record as saying that there is NO chance that this will happen.

Now that I've said that, it probably will.

Pitching Glavine on 3 days rest is a recipe for disaster. They've got to have his starts or they're in deep trouble. Now supposedly Carpenter goes Game 2 if the Cards lose tomorrow. Given his home road splits I like a Glavine/Carpenter matchup in Games 2/6 with them both being at Shea. If Glavine struggles in Game 5 on 3 days rest(which we have every reason to think he will) the Mets are essentially sunk unless they were up 3-1 going in.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying that I think there is no way that Glavine doesn't start game 1. It would be too daring an idea for Willie to not trot out his best pitcher when he is available in game 1 of the NLCS. If Maine got bombed he would be crucified, and I don't see him risking that.

By morons in the press maybe, if the Mets win Game 1 they're going to be faced with Glavine on 3 days rest in Game 5 followed up by Maine against Carpenter, and Steve Trachsel in a possible Game 7.

Frankly I don't see how you can't pitch Glavine Game 2, you're going to need 2 great games from him and throwing him on 3 days rest drastically reduces the chances of that happening. If Maine pitches Game 5 and gets bombed you don't lose as much because you weren't counting on a win from him. In my mind Glavine Game 2 is actually the "safe" play as you're protecting yourself in the back end of the series. I'll agree with you that this kind of forward thinking certainly doesn't jive with Willie's "Let's win tonight" mentality.
