They won 100 games with Art Howe, maybe Beane doesn't think the manager matters too much. Regarding the weather, the Cardinals fans don't seem too optimistic about getting a game in tonight. It'll be interesting to see if Larussa tries to bring Carpenter back on short rest to get him a home start if the game does end up getting rained out. It does look wet in St Louis: http://www.kmov.com/stadiumcam/
Certainly looks a little damp. Wonder if they'll pull the old "parking fees obtained and than cancel game' plan?
Well maybe it does. But that means they have to play tommrow, fly back to Shea after the game, play on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday. The only real good rest they can get is today. The plane ride home after the game tommrow should be somewhat of a rest.
Well I have to be completely honest with you. All my judgments are based on games prior to September, so I guess a lot has changed. Since I'm in Indiana most of the time, I don't get a chance to watch the Met games except in the summer. So, what I saw of Heilman, wasn't a fan. What I saw of Wagner, awful. Seems as though my opinion is pretty outdated then, so I apologize. But I guess from their performances during the summer months, I couldn't see their game changing enough for me to be comfortable with them. Also, I apologize for jumping in 47 or 48 pages into the thread, but I wasn't going to go through all the previous pages. So I guess I was a little late, but I'm glad everyone else was on the same page haha. On a different note, while I cannot attest for the second half of the season on Wagner, I can assure you he was NEVER underrated on this team. I'm not saying there are many good closers out there because there aren't. But I will say that Wagner is not a good closer. For people to label him as a top closer is way off base. A good closer is automatic. You pitch for one inning, you give up 0 runs. You bring your best stuff for one inning. That's it. It SHOULD basically shorten a game to 8 innings. From what I saw of Wagner primarily over the summer, he's not worthy of any praise and the playoffs have shown me no different.
What is even better news is that the bullpen which hasn't gotten too much work since Oliver ate innings on Sat and they didn't go too deep yesterday should be fresh and ready so Heilman, Wagner and Feliciano should be fresh.
despite his recent goodplay, Wagner is meat and I don't see him having two good games in a row against the Mets, even with four days rest. this day off surely benefits the Mets more. sure, the Cards bullpen gets a day to rest after having been worked over yesterday, but that bullpen was playing better than it really is in the playoffs and the day off isn't going to make them better than they really are. Glavine with four days off gives the Mets the best chance to win game 5 and the series. if they win tomorrow I don't see how the Cards go into New York and win twice, regardless of who we pitch.
anyone heard anything about tomorrows starter for the cards? with weaver much better on the road and carp much better at home i wonder if larussa would bring carp back on short rest.
