Nice post... I didn't realize Andy was the leader. Glavine was great again tonight.

Oh trust me I'm just having some fun with you as well. It's not that often that the Skanks are out and the Mets are getting all the attention. I remember going to Yankee Stadium with my uncle in the mid 80's and you could hear a pin drop when Deion Sanders was chasing fly balls in the OF. I know if the Mets had taken off in the mid 80's like they should have and the Yanks would have stayed in the Bucky Dent managing days all these 1996ers would be Met fans. I find your little av a bit funny but I'd love it if the Mets won a WS in the 3 years A Rod has been a Yank and the Yanks didn't

I agree he would've been thrown out had he tried to score. What I'm saying is that you can't run like that in general. This time, it didn't hurt them, but if he doesn't quit running like a moron, it's going to cost us.

 Yeah, I'd say any team down 2-0 wouldn't travel with "their heads up high." What is that supposed to mean?

Beating Carpenter would crush the Cardinals hopes completely

Talking about a professional pitcher. The dude is 40 years old, most likely a hall-of-famer and he's still learning new pitches.

From the NY Post article on the game

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/10132006/sports/mets/carlos_cans_cardinals_mets_mark_hale.htm

Glavine said in his final three outings, he "made a couple of adjustments," noting that the Mets' clinching permitted him to sample them. According to Lo Duca, "He started working on a cut fastball and it's been a big pitch for him."

:rofl2: What a stupid thing to say. The Cards did have some good rips in the 3rd with the bottom of their order but to say Glavine "wasn't good at all" after he shut you down is pretty ridiculous.

What a clown. If you read this week's SI, you saw that for the first time (perhaps ever) the fans in St. Louis got on the team, and the fans' belief is that if they don't get to the World Series their season is a failure. Maybe the pressure is getting to little Albert?

83 wins and not getting to the WS is a failure?

There's a nasty rumor going around that the Cards fans might not clap politely when the Mets score a run down there. What is the world coming to? They're going crazy down in St Louis!

"He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all," Pujols said of Glavine, who threw seven innings of four-hit ball for the victory. "I think we hit the ball hard, we didn't get some breaks.

"I say he wasn't good at all. We just didn't get some opportunities and that's it. . . . (Glavine did the) same thing that he always does. Throw a changeup, fastball and that was it. I just think we should've done a better job than we did."

What are you smoking? The guy doesn't have close to 300 wins by mistake. How about you didn't do your job Albert? I didn't see David Wright or Jose Reyes who were equally as bad as Pujols moping around saying Weaver stunk and they should have lit him up for a 12 spot. You don't give up 4 hits and shut out somebody in the NLCS when you say " he wasn't that good at all". Get a clue there Mr. HGH

How about you get off the HGH and read a little but because you contradicted yourself in your quotes. "The same thing he always does" Yeah that same thing has him at 290 wins and made him a potential HOFer.

Strange but true. They even mention in the article an editorial cartoon in last Saturday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch with the theme that the Cards might view getting to the World Series as an accomplishment, but the fans would accept nothing less than winning it.

This really is an interesting point. In many ways, this game is more important for the Cards than for the Mets - if the Cards lose, they will have to win 4 out of 5 games, with their ace only pitching once; if the Mets lose, each team has to win 3 out of 5, with their ace pitching once. Given his relatively poor performance on the road, the supposed good break that the Cards got by being able to move Carpenter up to game 2 could end up blowing up in their faces. (We can only hope.)

yeah, I think, and hope, that the pressure has obviously shifted to the Cards....

it was all on the Mets last night to hold serve in Game 1 with the prospect of facing Carpenter in Game 2 looming...they played like it, everyone seemed a little tense and tight at the plate

Cards lose tonite to go down 2-0 with carpenter, this could be a real short series.....but this is obviously wishful thinking on my part, not sure what to expect from Maine tonite

Pujols was right. As I said during the game, Glavine was not on his best game. Can't argue with the results, but he got very lucky.

seriously hope that's sarcastic...not to say he was on his "Best" per se....but to say a 7 inning, 4 hit, no run performance is lucky is just ludacris (sp?)....4 singles no less, and 2 of them in one inning......that's Tom Glavine, that's the way he pitches, you expect him to strike everyone out?

jeez, as a Met fan, you should know that by now, how many times did he pitch against us when you watch and are like, how are they not hammering this guy?
