Really. Not to mention Valentin has been far from struggling in the po's. He started off 0-15. After that I'm pretty sure he batted >.300
Why would anyone be embarressed by a baseball team losing to another baseball team? I'm as dissapointed as anyone but embarressed? i will never understand. It is baseball, that was a GREAT baseball game last night, the Mets gave it all they had and in the end they got beat by an epic pitching performance. Say whatever you will about Suppan and not being that great in the regular season, I did after the first game but bottomline is he pitched brilliantly in this series.. Willie made some questionable decisions last night( I would have put in Wagner in the 9th & bunted instead of Floyd) but that is baseball. For me this series was baseball at its best, with a dissapointing ending..
Does anyone have the WFAN radio call of Endy's catch? I think it should be Gary Cohen, so I wanna hear how nuts he went.
because the Mets, in the biggest game of the season, came up as small as you possibly could outside of getting shut out. that is embarrasing. come on what? being embarrased has nothing to do with the outcome by itself, but that manner in which the outcome was achieved. how the Mets played offensively was embarrasing, plain and simple. they had absolutely no plan from the get go. game 7, at home, 1 run, 2 hits through 8 innings, yeah, that's embarrasing. I was thinking the same thing in the 9th, bunt the two on into scoring position, perhaps then Reyes takes a different approach and realizes he can tie the game with just a hit instead of trying to win the game with one hit because both runners aren't in scoring position. and Wagner not coming in the 9th is every reason why I've hated him all year. yes, that's a position you bring in your closer, shut them down, and then go for the win in the bottom of the 9th. the fact that Willy didn't shows how little faith he had in Wagner not giving up a run, that is more indicative of Billy Wagner and not a bad decision by Willy. I hope Wagner thinks about that all off season and realizes he didn't get the job done. that home run is as much on Wagner, for not being in the game because you couldn't put him in considering how he has played, as it is on Heilman.
I agree it was embarrasing. The Mets with there high powerd offence could not muster up two runs ? THEY HAD THE BASES JUCED TWO TIMES ! they disserved to lose. The Cards diden't beat the mets .. the mets beat the mets. :shit:
BTW, it may just be me, but I HATED HATED HATED! them playign Sweet Caroline with the score tied at 1. It just seemed to be asking for trouble.
I don't know if you've been listening to the fan at all, but I know last night the fans who called it up were pretty good. Except for some obnoxious yankee fans who called up the schmooze to gloat.
I think some people are just getting embarassment and disappointment mixed up. What makes it all the more frustrating is you can't just point at one guy and say "see, it's all his fault!" The Mets got beat, and it sucks.
How do fans have the nerve to beat up on Beltran? I got about 10 IM's saying "Beltran sucks"....b/c he didnt swing at that pitch? Are you fuckin kidding me?? The people who complain are the ones that have never picked up a baseball in their lives. They have no idea how hitting a baseball works. Without him, we arent here in the first place, and then to blame him for not swinging at a nasty 0-2 CB is ridiculous.
I wanted to do that. But I drove home w/ my friends grandfather, who had the fan on, so I heard it that way. My fist still hurts a bit from last night. Evidently punching parts of Shea Stadium does NOT help get over the loss.
I'll probbaly not tune into him again until baseball season. I can't stand listening to him say the word "Icelander" and act like the rangers are godly. BTW, have I mentioned my exponentially growing HATRED for the Cardinals recently? http://www.metsblog.com/blog/_archives/2006/10/20/2431518.html From Pujols shittalking to his refusing to flip to first to show up a hobbling Floyd to this, I really hope they get fucked up in the series.
I second that. I have defending them all morning in work,on the phone(i have heard from people I aint seen in awhile) on the street.
At least people are finally realizing -- from the Sports Guy's (very funny) Running Diary on the game -- http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/061020 5:22 -- With two outs in the first, Albert Pujols comes up to a round of boos. Win or lose, he has been the breakout star of this playoffs as everyone collectively realized that he's kind of a jerk. Barry Bonds, move on over! There's a new sheriff in Jerk Town!
No team in the NL is even close to the Mets. I expect them to be in a few WS during the next few seasons. They have experience now, make a few moves and they could be unstoppable.
