You win some or you lose a ton. It's hard to win a lot moving up because the guy you take has to be a 100% hit to make it worthwhile and even then it can be a push because the roster got thin on you and holes opened up elsewhere. I don't have any idea what the Jets are going to do in the 1st this year. I'd expect that it will be a well thought out move whatever it is.
I agree, trading up didn't work the previous years. Not sure why we would this year. Usually established teams like the Falcons have that luxury. The Jets do not. Trading up means your one piece away from winning it all.
With the Jills bringing in Kolb the chance of Smith falling to 9 look more likely. If Revis is traded and it includes this year pick #13 we could get a QB at #9 and still get a great pass rusher or Austin at #13. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/30/kevin-kolb-finalizing-deal-with-bills/
You want to completely rebuild this offense? Geno and Austin would absolutely do that. Ideally (for those that want Geno), the Raiders trade for Flynn, Bills sign Kolb and Cards sign Palmer. Not sure what is up with the Flynn trade, but it seemed like it was going to happen yesterday... Right now, Id say the Raiders and Bills are the most likely to nab Geno before our pick.
Well, I must commend Idzik for waiting right now. Let all of the other QB needy teams get FA washed up QBs while we draft some young blood. Only team ahead of us that hasn't gotten a QB is Jacksonville, I think. Have they committed to Henne...?
henne and they haven't completely given up on blame gabbert. this could break exactly right for us to grab geno. geno and marty will be a match made in heaven
Looks like it is working out that way: Oakland Raiders (No. 3)-Flynn Cleveland Browns (No. 6)-? Arizona Cardinals (No. 7) -Palmer Buffalo Bills (No. 8)- Kolb I think the Browns still might take Smith, also Buffalo might draft him even though they picked up Kolb. The Eagles are an outside chance with Vick always hurt. If Smith does manage to fall to the Jets, I don't see how we could pass him up. We have so many needs, but QB is one of them.
Jets interested in Ryan Nassib, too http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/03/jets-interested-in-ryan-nassib-too/ Syracause Ryan Nassib has multiple workouts scheduled over the next few days. One team not on the list nevertheless has a high level of interest in Nassib. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Jets have shown considerable interest in Nassib, both during the season (when Mike Tannenbaum was the General Manager) and after the season (when John Idzik got the job). The Jets, we’re told, scouted Nassib aggressively during his final season at Syracuse, and they spent extra time with him after his Pro Day workout, including taking him to dinner. While the Jets may not be willing to invest the ninth overall pick on any quarterback given their other needs, they need someone who can run Marty Mornhinweg’s offense — especially if there’s any concern about Mark Sanchez’s ability to do so.
My 2 cents, which will buy you nothing these days anyway, why would Rex even fathom the thought of picking a questionable 1st round QB and write off the 2013 season as a wash? Even the 2014/2015 if they drafted Smtih? There's no way I see that scenario taking place - doesn't make any sense because the Jets have too many other glaring weaknesses to support weening another QB. I think Rex and Idzig really feel the same about taking their chances on Sanchez doing a complete 180 and having a great year which, is not unfathomable based on what we've seen from Mark the first 2 years. Give him a good program to work with and see what transpires for 2013. If it flops , then we know for sure what their priorities are for 2014., which has a much better QB class to focus on.
I was listening to Mayock and he has Geno rated as a late first early second talent. His words there is just to much bad tape on him. The Jets do not need another first round bust.
Interesting point. In another thread I was speculating that those moves mean Geno could fall to the Jets, but now that you mention it, if one of these teams believes in Geno why would they let someone like Kolb or Flynn stop them? Even with Palmer, why risk it not working out? The Cards have seen what QB hell looks like and they should be exhausting all options to get someone competent in there.
I see all those QB's as potential care takers for a rookie. They give their teams someone who is capable of starting for half a season or whatever it takes for a rookie to come up to speed. Starting a rookie QB from day one isn't as uncommon as it used to be but I still don't know if it's the best approach.
There is some bad tape on him out there, him over-throwing WRs constantly. He needs a lot of fixing before he can even start in the NFL. I think people here want the Jets to draft Geno Smith, not for the betterment of the team, but to get Sanchez off the roster. Awful reason to draft a QB. Just my 2 cents. I'm not sold on him at all. Jets need to have a wait and see approach - don't draft one because he's on the board. He's not even the BPA at 9.
Wait... What??? RR and Idzik will not take chances on Smith, but they will take chances on Sanchez? WTF?
The likely candidate is Arizona. TheY can draft smith, and sit him behind Palmer, which is how you sustain winning.
Please. Sanchez already has more career post season wins than any Jets QB ever. More Road playoff wins. And is one of the fastest to 30 wins in NFL history. yeah, lets start over with a rookie that wouldnt be considered in almost any other draft, except this years weak QB class. Sanchez has flaws, but at the end of the day...a bird in the hand.
