I agree with that... In Europe all of the sports we play (including Rugby which is VERY physical) last for around 40 games a season.. having only 16 games of NFL is so weird. 18 would be the right number...

That's actually a great solution if they're committed to the 18 game schedule.

I'm more upset that they want to have talks on extending the season rather than discussing the medical concerns of players who played in the past.

explain that to MLB & the NHL. They both increased the # of games over the years(NHL jumped around for a while.)

NBA had 82 game seasons since 1967-1968.

I think 16 games is fine(32 games, div. set up perfect for 16), all 18 is going to do is help with playoff tiebreakers(Conference games outside div. will be 8 rather than 6).

Schedule set-up my guess at 18
    6 Division games
    4 Interconference division(ex. AFC South)
    2 Other interconf. division(Top 2 or Bottom 2)(AFC North - Cincy & Cle)
    2 Other interconf. division(Top 2 or Bottom 2)(AFC West - Oak & KC)
    4 Outer Conference game(NFC South)

So only 4 teams won't have H2H tiebreaker when it comes to playoff tiebreakers.
Jets vs. Pit, Balt, Den & SD rather than Pit, Balt, Den, SD, Cle & KC

I think there should be only 3 pre-season games and 17 regular season games.

Each team would have a different number of home games

    Times change.

Jim Brown played the first four years of his career (1957-60) when teams only played 12 games a season. For the remainder of his career, teams played 14 games a season.

Do you hate the fact that Jim Brown would have a substantial number of additional rushing yards if the NFL had a 16-game schedule from 1957-65 (assuming Brown would have played in all of the additional games)? Do you hate it that Sammy Baugh would be much higher up the passing charts if he played in the 16-game era?

If you do not, then I must conclude that you have a prejudice to 16-game action. As for me, I accept all NFL seasons. 12-game ones, 14-game ones, 16-game schedules, 11-game schedules (1937-1942, 1946), and even 18-game ones.

the question is how exactly does that tool running the show for the nfl see that this will make him and the owners more money? how will it increase his prestige?

pretty simple answers and it will happen, this fuckin guy has too much power... he is going to ruin this league.

i know i know i have added nothing to this thread but i just cant go by a thread that i can tell everyone how much i hate goodell.

haha...I think that's the only point of going to pre-season games!

It takes about a 6 pack to cheer for the 3rd string.

Why? It is great for us football fans.

Besides, the preseason sucks anyway, now it will only be two games for preseason.

Of course it will. Now every 8 years a player is playing what would be an extra season right now. It makes no sense to replace 2 preseason games where they bearly play for 2 games that mean something and destroy their boddies even more. There are only so many hit a player has in his body.

That has happened already, they once played 12 games then 14 games and now play 16.

It's all relative, it has not always been a 16 game season either. Back when Jim Brown set alot of rushing records, they only played what, 14 games a year. No one thinks any less of him, and remarks are made about how many games it took to set such records. They usually refer to such terms as "modern era". This will just be a new era is all.

ah, that makes sense if they push for games in Europe. Otherwise, I would say they will definitely go with 18 games. Interesting thought.

    1957-60: 12-game schedule
    1961-65: 14-game schedule
