4 below average or average (13-32) defense won Super Bowls in the last 10 years. 4 below average offenses (13-32) won Super Bowls in the last 10 years. It's not as highly favored. I also wish they had playoff rankings because like I said I know Indy got players back for their SB run that they didn't have during most of the regular season. Things like that don't show. Or Welker going down late in the season and that probably slowing the NE offense down.

Oh well. It basically means passing offense alone can win you games in the regular season, especially now. Once you get to the playoffs, you need a run game and defense because you play better defense that can make elite QBs look average

I dont think cherry picking the best defenses and offenses is the way to figure out what wins. In general youve got to be competent on both sides of the ball.

Our biggest problem talent and capwise is at QB if you want to look at how the team is built, and barring Mark or Tim getting a lot better the solution is not on the roster.

But QB isnt the only problem....

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Whether it's offense or defense, as long as you're elite at something and have a coaching staff that can create mismatches, you have a chance to make a run in the playoffs.

You need talent & depth to win games.
We are short on talent and lacking depth, thus we are LOSERS.

Above everything else, you need a quarterback. Everything else is negotiable. The problem is finding that quarterback is very difficult.

If you don't have a top quarterback, it's extremely difficult to win big in this league. The fact the Jets got to two AFC Championship games with Sanchez is impressive, particularly with how he played in his first season.

Sounds alright, but I'm not sure how they're gonna find a top QB, two RBs, a WR, and a TE in the next offseason. Especially since we probably won't even have a top 5 picks. There are a tonnnn of bad teams in the NFL this year.

Im not looking it up, but off the top of my head, the Panthers, Saints, Jags, Chiefs, Titans, Raiders, Cowboys, Redskins, Colts, Bills are all below or right next to us. And Im sure Im forgetting teams.

This year's just a few really good teams, and then a giant clusterfuck at the bottom. Hard to watch.

obviously all of those pieces won't come in 1 draft. the next regime needs to have those pieces in their plans over a course of 2 or 3 seasons

if the jets have a shot with a high pick to get a top tier QB, they make the move for QB-WR in 2013

if not, they hold out on QB and draft the other pieces (RB TE OL) and keep Sanchez. he will probably earn them another high pick in '14.

I'm in agreement that the front office needs change. Ready to start interviewing top minds in the Ravens/Steelers/Packers organizations and choose a candidate to run the football operations. Also, give the new guy power to keep/release anybody currently in the organization.

    100% agree.

I think the general consensus around here is that our front office hedged our future with a win-now plan in '09 and '10 by signing free agents and trading away draft picks and unfortunately it failed.

What we ultimately realize is that the NFL is not like MLB when you can buy now and not have a salary cap to answer to.

Despite some glimpses of success and some good draft picks, this front office needs to be held accountable for the downhill decline the Jets have taken the last 2 seasons and presumably for the next 2-3 seasons.

The dolphins won by playing great defense. Special teams contributed heavily. Defense is a factor, ours is just too banged up and old right now.

The Dolphins won with special teams, the blocked punt broke the morale of the Jets. Also the blocked FG.

Then the Jets' offense contributed heavily in the Dolphins win.

Not taking anything away from the Dolphins' D, because its better than the Jets'.
