They just showed, right before the pick on ESPN, he was the 3rd best available player overall on Kyper's board, not the 3rd TE. Like I said, 4.5 speed is the same thing as a WR, downfield speed and possession size at 6-2, 242. What's not to like?
I really hope this wasn't another Mangini pissing match where he was teaching someone a lesson, I really hope i am wrong on this
CHeck this out - the front office is obviously valuing speed. Gholston and Keller have the fastest 40 times at their respective positions (fact via sporting news). Keller caught 68 balls last year and 56 the year prior averaging over 13 YPC each year. We as fans were hoping for a difference maker on offense, the FO has attempted to acquire just that. How can you kill this pick when there is no legitimate big time, mismatch creating WR in this years draft?
I have to think that they have at lease some idea of Baker landing somewhere else by tomorrow. I can't believe after what went on this week that they would take another TE unless they had a suitor lined up for Baker already.
REALLY FUCKING BAD... things were going too well, falling into place... we were even throwing around the idea of trading down... then Jet history and tradition kicks in... WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?
whatever if he has some speed and athleticism he will be good, hopefully we can get a pick in the 2nd or 3rd round, but if he is a bust I am going to flip
I don't give a fuck if this guy is the next incarnation of Antonio Gates (who btw was a walk on), this goes down with the worst picks in NY Jets history.
We no longer have a second...how do you think we got this piece of shit? And we never had a third and now we have one less 4th as well.
yes what about Thomas, Sweed, Jackson but Keller has some injury concerns which is huge especially in the NFL
I cannot understand why the hell they traded up to pick keller. Who was going to pick him before our original pick?? No one. Stupid.
if they wanted some speed, we shudda just taken desean jackson at that spot........ i was aware of dustin keller, and aware of what he did at the combine, but i just didn't see us drafting a TE....
I agree completely.I have never heard of this guy and I wasnt too big on a TE, but if he is anything like Dallas Clark then I am thankful. The highlights I saw were pretty impressive. I think most of us fans just want to stay glued to the TV and watch our team pick as many times as possible, but to me if we can only pick 2 or three solid starters every year it is better than drafting 7 players three of whom may end up being back ups or may not even make the team.Chill out guys, quality over quantity anytime. If we can replicate last years success where we got Revis and Harris.
already? we haven't seen him play yet; if he's the next Gates, this'll be one of the best picks we've ever made. the point is, time will tell. i assume the FO plans on surviving this year and stockpiling picks for next year: we now have picks for Vilma, Robertson, and (soon) Baker in the 2009 draft.
have people not heard of Todd Heap, Tony gonzo, Kellen winslow jr? This guy is 6'2 242 with killer speed and instinct for the ball A explosive TE is exactly what Pennington or even kellen needed in this system Baker is shit
