I agree w/ you. I think Freeman could be a nice pick if the jets truly feel he's capable of being a franchise QB. Unfortunately jet fans never want to draft a qb round 1 out of fear of failure.
What makes me sick about that mentality is that the 1st round QBs are the reason why the Jets have seen the playoffs. Namath, Todd, O'Brien, and Pennington all went to the postseason.... but they don't want a 1st round QB. Sad.
Exactly my point. This franchise's achilles heel has been lack of a franchise QB...Yet when the team has actually taken a CHANCE on one in the first round...we are at least a playoff team. There's gotta be something to that.
No thanks to Freeman, we have too many un-tested QB's on our roster already, too early to add another. Lets give the guys a chance and then if nothing comes out of it go to the 2010 draft class at the QB position. Several things we can do in the draft this year, a trade down for more picks might be the best option at the minute. A lot will depend on if we get Austin i think.
If we want a WR, TE, DE or RB it doesn't make that much sense to trade up.. especially since we need depth in some other positions...
Agreed, but I would fully support going up for one of the Qbs, whichever we like best. They can't trade up for anyone else.
Trade up for what and for whom? And at what cost? I don't see anything north of #17 worth reaching for, honestly, unless you want to inch up slightly as an insurance ploicy to take Josh Freeman. I've been a big proponent of working with the QBs we have, mind you, but I like Freeman's Rothlisberger-type size (6'6" - 250?) and the fact that he didn't have as much to work with as a Sanchez or Stafford. He could be the Day One QB sleeper, IMO.

Stafford will go in top 5 Sanchez will be gone by the 12th pick Freeman is barely 1st round talent IMO; I say No way. I do like some of the poster's logic in the fact that we now have 3 QB's, though somewhat unproven, on the roster. Why would we draft a high-pick QB? A defensive pick in the 1st round is very probable; A WR is very possible; a RB has a chance, too. I just don't see us going after a QB when the class of QB's in this darft is really kind of mediocre, at best.
I don't know who wrote this...but i've read a few other scouting reports on Freeman...and they've all said the same thing...he's got glaring accuracy/mechanics problems. I don't want any part of this guy.....I'm more comfortable rolling with Clemens/Ratliff. WOW! Thanks for posting this... I had not read that. In that case, I'm not for trading up AT ALL for anyone. Go with the QBs we have and either take a good WR or BAP at 17 and/or trade down.
no problem, 227..glad i can open a few more eyes regarding Freeman.....I stand by my earlier post in this thread (post #14 I believe) where i said i would drop a massive chud in my pants if we draft this loser in the first round. It's nice that he's a big kid and has a cannon....but if he couldn't hit the red side of a barn....i couldn't give two shits about him......
Well I'd take both sides of the spectrum w/ grains of salt. The fact is..Freeman has a TON of tools to work w/ in terms of developing a QB. His accuracy is not terrible..just very inconsistent...and 80% of QB's who enter the draft need work on their mechanics anyway. I would say he has more upside than both Sanchez & Stafford. He obviously didnt have the same success in college but didnt have the tools to work w/ either. He's def. worth considering at # 17...
