I agree, it is frustrating to know your qb cannot stretch the field with his arm, and his mental goofs can leave me shaking my head on what he saw on that play ( interception to marshall against the skins comes to mind, also the pick in the browns game) but the reality is he is probably going to be our best option unless someone beats him out in camp. The league is sporting a very weak group of qb's, there isn't enough talent to go around. Just look at Tanny last night, and they paid that guy 77 mil and he cant stretch the field due to his inability to connect on the long ball. Collin Kaepernick (sp?), everyone was riding his nuts a few years ago and hes regressed to nothing. Sam Bradford is lucky he is still walking and is showing he was more fluff than talent. The list goes on and on i.e. Alex Smith, Nick Foles etc. I would love for us to upgrade the position I just do not see how we do it unless we get really lucky in the draft, Petty develops or we make a blockbuster trade.
This thread is stupid We are midseason and rolling well with 32 year old Fitz IF he keeps us winning your gonna jinx that?
I am kind of curious what Fitz does with the rest of the season. If he can cut out the 2-3 head scratchers/riverboat gambler throws he makes each game and develops a strong 3rd option I can see him sticking around some.
Why do we care at this moment who the Jets QB will be next season? We are 4-2 and looking like a playoff team. So fuck next season for now.
To everyone who says "worry about this in the offseason," it's a fan message board. We aren't in the Jets headquarters at Florham Park. We can speculate things like this, even in the middle of a potential playoff season. And it's a very legitimate discussion; long term QB is still one of our most glaring needs and this is the issue that will likely define the tenures of Maccagnan and Bowles with the Jets. I hope the Jets keep drafting QBs. You can't count on Petty panning out at all.
Some fans are living under the delusion that what they say or think has an impact on the team. "oh no, we can't look ahead to next week, it's that type of mentality that loses games" lol. We can and should discuss ad nauseam who the QB is next year because it's just fans shooting the breeze and has no impact on the team and isn't detracting, for example, from Fitz's preparation for Oakland. It's a message board. Not the locker room. Having said that, it's Petty _
It's sounds to me as if you're looking past the Raiders. This is the BOWLES era. The fans always looked past their opponents during the REX era and look where it got us. Pathetic. I hope it's Petty but he's probably barely getting any work at all as the 3rd QB, I almost wish he was the backup. It'll be interesting to see if this virtual reality system speeds up his process at all. I wish he got more significant preseason reps, he got his feet wet in Detroit, played lights out vs Atlanta then was relegated to handoff duties vs the Giants and sat in favor of 2 veterans we cut the next day in the last game. I wanted to see a little more of him to gague his progress.
Obviously not. Our posts have as much influence on the outcomes of games as they do on who wins The Bachelor.
lmaoo... the sarcasm. Really, people do be saying shit like this and believing what we say will have an impact on the games lol.
While I wouldn't mind taking a peek at Kaepernick I think the price would be too steep and we need to make sure we take care of our own AND I would really like to see what we can develop. But that's just me. I live out here and I watch him every week. Yes, he could be doing better but he's got nothing. The right side of his line is so bad (keep this in mind Winter complainers) that he is routinely getting to his drop back and the D-line is right there...I mean..right THERE! He's got no help, rookie head coaches...I don't think Peyton or Brady would be anymore than what we are seeing now. The dumb part is, as the OP suggested, Jed York is going to lay the blame SQUARELY at the feet of Kaepernick to get out of that big assed contract and SOME team is going to get a young guy not far removed from 3 NFC title games and a SB...and he hasn't begun to hit his prime. God forbid he goes to a team with a QB guru. I just can't see a scenario where he is on the Jets...would I go for it. In a NY minute...but it ain't happening.
You're not alone here, JetLifeLo, but there aren't many of us! LOL I'm really hoping that Bryce will be our guy, but if Lynch, Goff or some other QB is rated as BPA in the 1st or 2nd round, I think the Jets have to take him. One thing for certain is that the Jets won't be able to fully utilize Devin Smith's abilities on long routes with Fitz. They will need Geno, Petty or another QB to take advantage of that special skill of his. That said, since Fitz is pretty accurate, they could try to utilize Devin's speed by having him run slant routes. I have hopes that Geno can still develop as well, but less than I had a year ago. At some point, unless the Jets have already totally soured on him, they need to find out what he can do in games, but unless Fitz gets hurt or starts playing badly, it looks like it may be TC and preseason next year.
What's this? You mean our opinions have absolutely no influence on who wins The Bachelor? Say it isn't so!
That's the funny thing. Goff has talent for sure. And if we took him I'd root like hell for him. But of my top 3 guys the last 3 years, I never saw one if them outplayed by an opposing QB. Marcus, Teddy, Carr were always clearly the best QB on the field. Kessler is actually outplaying Goff. And the long ball inaccuracy and multiple INTs are alarming. I can't make him my guy if he can't outplay a USC QB. _
