Our best defensive player and arguable our best offensive player arent young guys. Overall we arent a young team.
We have two young QBs, and no idea whether either is any good (though we're pretty sure one is NOT). I hope we take another mid-rounder this year. Keep shooting.
If you want an 8-10 win season, play Fitz next year. Your goal should always be winning the Super Bowl. IMO the jets should give Petty every opportunity to be the starter next year. He is the future of this team at QB (for now). The other teams KNOW Fitz can't throw it long so they pack it in--Imagine if the jets had a QB that could keep the defense honest with the long ball.
I could see that if it wasn't for the cap and being up against it as is. And yeah there's like next to zero chance it's Kaepernick unless he's flat out cut and you get him at a bargain basement price. As much as I'd hate it I could also see them bringing in RG3 on a bargain deal too after they avoid having to pay his option and he gets cut.
True, but look at Brady's post Randy Moss games. Brady and Fitz are very similar in throwing the ball 10-15 yards almost EVERY attempt. Playing like that a QB can play to 50. A QBs like Michael Vick, RGIII, Kapernick, kid in Seattle, who live off their legs and youthful athleticism won't last 15 yrs. But an accurate short yardage pocket passer with a good running game, good o-line, good defense, and good coaching can play well into their 30's. 35 at LEAST, which means Fitz could conceivably play here another 3-5 years. If the Jets under Fitz can win 10-12 games a year, Fitz ain't going ANYWHERE. In the NFL, anything longer than 3 years IS a long term solution.
If that was the case I'd rather bring Fitz back for another year assuming he's healthy. At this point I'm not sure how much more of an upgrade Brees would be over him (especially outside of a dome) but his arm strength and past success would give us a better shot at a championship. You are probably right though the $$ would not add up without some magic from Mac
Sorry, I misread your post. That said, following is a scenario that could make your improbable scenario a reality. Fitz could finish the year well enough to be brought back. The Jets know he isn't the long term answer, however. Petty could not show enough progress for them to feel good about his developing into a starter any time soon. Geno could have worn out his welcome for a number of reasons. With Fitz not being the answer for anything past 2016, and not even a guarantee for that year, and Petty not being a reliable option, the Jets could feel that they need to draft a better QB prospect for the future. This could especially happen if they really like Paxton, he has rocketed up the draft boards, and the Jets consider him the BPA at their pick.
I can't see that. Mac is smart. He knows that Fitz not even that reliable of a short term answer, much less a long term answer, due to his injury history. He also knows that no matter how good a job he does as GM, if he doesn't find a franchise type QB he won't be here that long. We know from this past draft that Mac is likely to go BPA anyway, regardless of position. I don't think he would ever be so short-sighted and focus only on the present and pass up a possible legitimate franchise QB prospect, for the short term. If he did, he should be fired.
This speculation sounds about as realistic as when champ said we should trade a 1st round pick for Belichick 10 years ago.
How is it confusing? We know that Fitz isn't the answer long term. Just because Petty can make all the throws doesn't mean anything if he can't read Ds and go through his progressions. It's not all about preparation and the CS. I think you're totally wrong. The CS can do everything correctly and Petty still fail to develop. He does have something to say about it after all. No one is rooting harder for Petty to be the Jets' QB of the future, but you can't just hope that happens or depend upon it. Mac is not about to trust the team's future (and his) with Fitz and a 4th round pick QB who is struggling with progressions. We also know that his philosophy is going BPA in the draft. If Lynch continues to play well, he could very easily be the BPA at the Jets' pick in the 1st round and a legitimate potential franchise QB. You don't pass those up, especially for a QB who was a 4th round pick, even if he's progressing as well as they hoped or better. Mac would go down in history as a clueless buffoon if he passed on a legitimate franchise QB prospect because he trusted in his 4th round pick. That would be worse than Idzik passing on Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr because he took Geno. Until you have that franchise QB, you have to keep taking great QB prospects if you're lucky enough to get the chance. If the Jets wound up with two great young QBs, so much the better for them. One could serve as the backup for a few years until his contract was about to run out, then with the shortage of quality QBs in the NFL, they could trade him to another team for multiple first round picks. A later round QB isn't going to mean or do squat unless they are lucky enough to find a Tom Brady clone. You don't pass on a topflight QB prospect because you have a 4th round pick QB you hope develops. You shouldn't even doing it with a 2nd round QB. If both QBs can play, taking a second QB will not waste the pick. With the shortage of quality QBs, there will always be a demand for QBs and the pick can be recouped.
yeah maybe my support and faith in Geno and Petty may be a little higher than usual since i was a huge fan of both in college. I hope Bryce is our guy though.. and id still like to see what geno could do with Marshall and Dev Smith..but that's just me.
Unless Fritz spends every day of the off season in the gym strenghting that weak right arm I'll pass on Ryan
lmfaooo... wow. you think we woulda had a ring by now with Hoodie had we done that? was this in 05? we didn't even have a first round pick that year and followed up in the 2nd with Mike fucking Nugent & Justin Miller lmfaoooooooooooo .. boy we are embarrassing. The fact that we coulda had Aaron Rodgers that year still eats at my soul. Nobody wanted him and we had no pick! ughhh
Hey now! Calm down. Leave the Batman out of it! Haha. I just don't see anything Kaepernick brings to the table. Add in the fact his confidence is shot, and I wouldn't want him on my roster at all.
