no matter how you spin it, it doesnt sound too good. you basically want a good player who runs his mouth. theres no use trying to make it sound strategic. and all that scary player stuff is over these days. cuz everyone on that field thinks theyre the shit. theres players who make you respect them, but id find it funny if anyone actually feared anyone. vilma is vocal leader enough. the guy has been making the presnap calls since he stepped on the field. now we need results, then we get recognition, and the media can paint our guys with the persona you desire.

Junc, I am fully confident that Kerry will be even a bigger leader next year and in the year's to come.

I think we just need one of the bigger guys in the front 7 to also bring that intensity.

One leader in a huddle of 11 men is not as powerful as 3.

I guess what I'm saying is we need at least one at every level of the defense:

Line, LB, Secondary. Maybe we're OK with VIlma and Rhodes and we just need somebody upfront.

Cause the voters of this award did not look deep enough into his production in his rookie year. They just looked at the amount of tackles not where they occurred not taking into account how many were for no gain, how many for losses, etc. etc

I guess DeMeco Ryans and Vince Young are shit too since they won the ROY awards this year. Might as well get rid of the award since the people voting obviously don't know as much as champ does

It's Bruschi. Vrabel has gone on record as saying it's him, and how the defense isn't the same without him. Other players have said so as well. That guy is Ted B on the Pats.

these are situational stats; i couldn't find yards-per-tackle (anyone know how to obtain this stat?)

as you'll see, Vilma's stats are close to some of the better MLB's in the NFL. and if you only gauge LB's by yards-per-tackle, without considering the many other facets to the position, then you're a person who needs "FB 101."

    cheers

So leading the team in tackles for 3 years are not stats?

Having 1 bad year is proof?

    Go shave your eyebrows.

You came banging away that he leads the team in tackles but do not go farther to say they are mostly made 5 or more yds DF. Now to me that is totally unacceptable & in fact IMHO makes him even less then a average player. If that is acceptable to you then it shows how much lower your standards are for a player then mine.

Champ, can you post the stats of Vilmas' yards-per-tackle? you keep saying he makes tackles 5 yards downfield, yet you never verify it with evidence beyond what you've seen watching the games. and since, as you say, they're facts, you should be able to find them and post them.

anyone else know how to find LB's yards-per-tackle?

    cheers

I posted them last year some time. The only way I could figure out how to do it was to go through each game individually and record the tackle and how many yards the play gained (yeah, I have too much time on my hands). I did the same for D-Rob. I'll see if I can find them but it was quite some time ago....

    ---edit---
By the way, doing it the way I did I was dependent on the official scorer at NFL.com. They are not always perfect as the tackle count didn't always jive with the individual play tally, but it was a good reference...

    ---another edit----

The search function only let me go back to my last 500 posts and it was before then, sorry...

wow, that's some determination and dedication to the board.

    thanks for checking anyway.

there has to be some way of finding that statistic. otherwise, we're going by Champ's senility.

    cheers

What do you expect when your D-Line is getting blown back 3-4 yds every run down? Do you expect Vilma to just plow through that blown up wall every running down? He is forced to make those tackles DF due to the lack of play from our trenches. He is currently the most consistent defensive player on this team, and IMO he has not shown his full impact for us yet, and he will be given that oppurtunity as soon as we bulk up the trench. I honestly dont understand why you are so against Vilma. He has'nt really done anything to warrant such an opinion towards him in my eyes, but I guess everyone has their own favorites... Maybe you are just a really big fan of, Wilfork?
