NDMick, Im not upset at the reporter. I could care less about his opinion since he probably only pulled up the stats without any research. It took me 10 minutes to write my post and it seems obvious how bad the rating was. Im upset with some of the fans who actually feel our D is a B+ at best. As for the team record argument, we are talking about one units grade. The Defensive grade. Not the entire team. The Entire team gets a B- or B at the most for its 4-4 record. The D itself gets an 'easy' A+. Number one in the league and you still don't get an A+? This D didn't give up a TD until the third wk of the season. One bad game, and all others were excellent.
Agree, but we haven't been terrible overall. Its been decent overall. We did keep the Dolphins, the #2 running team in the NFL, to around 52 yards on 23 carries.
my only guess is that the A is reserved for the broncos. an A+ is given to a team that doesn't allow 3 lead changes in the 4th quarter to a division opponent. The Jets are better than the Fins, but they got swept by them - aint that a bitch. I know last week wasn't the defenses fault. That was ST. A+ is a little too green shaded for me. An A- could be given and I think almost no one would disagree. A+ can't be given to a team that did what it did in Miami
As a principle, no unit on this team deserves an A with a 4-4 record, and to get technical, our D has had problems against the run. If this defense is an A+ what the hell would the 2000 Ravens get?
It doesn't make sense if a unit can't get an A due to the record of the TEAM. D is not responsible for the O or the ST. They have an affect on each other, but aren't responsible for each other. As for the Ravens example, that was a different season. But they also get an A+ of course. That doesn't mean we are as good as they were. Grading the units should be independent of what other teams are or were. We are not ranking the D, we are grading it. We have given up 82 pts in 8 games on D. The Ravens gave up 165 in 16 games (Thats total pts n probably has some int returned TDs or PR/KR TDs - or not). Anyways, your opinion.
I guess an A is reserved for Denver, but like I said, grading a unit should not depend on how other teams have played. Its how that particular unit played. I know we played a bad game against the phins first time around, but we are still grading all the games, not just the bad games. Even the 2000 Ravens gave up like 35+ pts to Jacksonville that yr. An A- would be an understatement. An A may seem decent, but if I were grading them, we have the number D in the NFL as far as pts allowed and that should get us an A+.
what's this about a botched hold in OT? I didn't see the game (thank god) but I don't remember reading about that.
Jets were trying for like a 53 yard FG when Weatherford botched the snap. He tried to pass it but it got intercepted. We may have missed the FG anyways as Feely was kicking into heavy winds I believe. That is why KC is now our holder. Weatherford gets to hold the snap on punts cuz there's no other way lol he can punt it really...
B+ for any team that is 4-4 is a great rating. Rate the D an A but then you got to knock the Offense down to a c+ or something.
