I'm not crazy about drafting a QB in round one, but I wouldn't be too upset. Especially if we really address the O-line from there on. We need skill position players as well, but if we aren't picking up a franchise caliber player ala Williams or Maroney, I'd pass and address the lines.

As far as the timeline for the new guys, I guess I'm a bit more patient. I'm not expecting more than 6 or 7 wins next year, and that's fine by me. As long as the staff shows that they know how to manage the team, and the guys play hard I'll take it as progress. Of course that's easy to say in April, so we'll see. The offense needs to be reconstructed, and the CS will have a bit of a learing curve, seeing as how they're all so young. In any case, it's a pretty exciting time right now.

Good post, welcome to the board. Same for all the new guys who posted in here.

Great post, I agree on most of your opinions. We definitely need linemen however if Lienart is there I think we really have to take him. I dont think we need D'brickshaw that much however with the 29th pick we definitely have to go with linemen if we dont use that #4 pick on them. I also agree with your philosophy on Mangini, if we make good moves, give it time then we should be doing well.

    Welcome aboard Bryan.

We may have to start a new board called TGG2. These new guys are very good posters. Im with you on Mario Williams for two reasons.

    1. He is a beast...and we lost Abe. Replacing this guy for Abe would make it a much easier pill to swallow as we watch Abe rack up sacks for the Falcons.

    2. I, like many, have the same mental illness called "draftaqbcantmissbutcouldbeabust aphobia".

This is such an important draft for this regime. If....and I understand its a paranoid if...but if the QB becomes a bust...it would set this franchise back big time.

Great to see you here Bryan and keep posting buddy.

Sorry we missed this post...I just never read it...good one.

Haha, i like your outlook on the draft. One of the reasons why I haven't participated in many mocks/prediction/wishlist type threads. When you're sitting at 4, there are so many options. I'm still not completely sold on any one direction. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that they don't turn out to suck.

I'm giving the duo some time as well. As long as Mangini doesn't pull a Marty Morningwheg (I love trying to spell that name), and the team is competitive for the first few years, I'll be satisfied. It's clear that they're rebuilding, so that's going to take time. Bradway and Co. tried their best to keep the team afloat, and that resulted in middle of the pack finishes, and early playoff exits. Let's see what a rebuilding plan can do. At this point, I'm willing to wait it out.

Nice post, hope you stick around. BTW, love the avatar.

Great posts by the new comers. We were getting a bit concerned that alot of the newer folks simply spent too much time in the oxygen bars and were posting just a bit lightheaded..

Keep them coming by all means. Stand up for your opinions as well and do not allow yourself to be bullied by folks who don't agree with you. Just don't crawl into the gutter to express yourself if and when you get mad. You can get your point accross without cussing and vulgarities I hope!

Again, welcome aboard one and all! Here's looking at a great new chapter in Jetland!!!

Why am I picturing Sundayjack with a Pina Colada laying in a hammock with two asian women fanning him.

AHHHH...he deserves a bit of a rest from this thread...poor guy.

Seriously, this is a great thread...always my favorite. For the record...I read posts on this thread for about 3 months before I posted.

Okay been lurking for a while so here's a post:
    1. I was pleased we didn't get one of those recycled loser coaches. Although I dispise the Patriots, I realize Mangini was groomed by Belichick and hopefully some of the Tuna rubbed off on him. As for Tannenbaum becoming GM, I don't see how anyone can be as bad as Bradway with his ridiculous contracts.
    2. We obviously need to build for the future so I'd pick Mario at 4 and Mangold at 29. I am concerned about our QB situation. Chad is DONE. Who knows what Ramsey is. I would love Brady Quinn next year.
    3. The 2006 season will be a success if the team starts to pick up Mangini's system and style. I'd also like to see the continued development of Jones, Cotchery, Miller, Coleman, and Nugent. As long as we do better than the Bills, I'll be happy.
    4. I will give Tangini 3 years, but they better draft well and make good play calls. I have to admit I like their style so far.

Excellent post, Axis. You made some very valid points, and me and you share some of the same views. I am starting to think that trading down might be the right thing to do, and draft DeAngelo.

Also, you're right.. if the team makes any kind of improvement over last year, I'm happy. We were an absolute mess last year.

Look forward to seeing more from you,

    ~Drew

This is 100% the correct way of looking at this. Sometimes fans think they know more than the people in the business who have had success in the business. Parcells wanted him as GM like 4 years ago, now he has 4 more years of experience. The only problem with this theory as I see it is that Parcells would of had Mr T as his GM in title only whereas here he is the man in charge. But still, to me it does speak volumes that Parcells wanted him.. Welcome aboard..

    1) Everybody wants to know the secret ingredient to success - so they
go for any or all coordinators from the Super Bowl winning Patriots of
    previous years.

    2) You need alot of help. But if you still want your QB standing up by
Week 16: Get Left tackle help. What compounds matters is that you
also need a pass rushing LB and a NT.

    3) You address #2.

    4) Not this year. It's a rebuilding year for you guys. I say you need 2
successful drafts and luck in Free Agency. 2008 I say.

    Good post minexdy...good thoughts.

Offensive line LB and NT are big concerns.

    Welcome aboard!

Hehehe. I'm all out of little drink umbrellas. What to do. . . what to do. . .

We had a spell around here where I didn't want to step foot in the Jets Forum, because it was either Falcons fans or shrill. Here's hoping the sane newer folk in this thread stick around and stay active.

    Oh, and good morning, CDude!

Hello fellow jets fans.. I too have been browsing this board since around the 04' draft. I finally felt it was time I came inside.

    (1) What was your first impression of the hiring of Eric Mangini as head coach, and the promotion of Mike Tannenbaum as General Manager?

As I had totally gotten fed up with Herman's constant pointless dribble and unimaginative approach to the game I was happy to see him go. I took the view that Eric could not do much worse given where he is stepping in. Edwards was not even a co-ordinator when he was hired. Bradway was equally unimpressive in his role as GM and so I was elated to hear that he was stepping down. Tannenbaum now has the opportunity to show what he can do. Again, I don't think the bar was set very high, so I feel he will do very well ( or no worse).

    (2) Who are you hoping the Jets pick in the 2006 Draft?

    Vince Young....

    (3) The 2006 season will be a success if. . . .

the team stays healthy and the players grasp the new systems quickly.

    (4) How long do you give the Mangini/Tannenbaum administration to succeed?

I will be patient for 3 years.. meaning there should be a division title at least.

Excellent and I like that you went out on the limb for Young. Clearly a minority position on this board. Your frustration reads like a true Jets fan, welcome.
