Let me clarify. You complain about "personal" attacks in a medium that, by definition keeps its contributors anonymous. Hence, the reference to irony. Look it up. (Couldn't resist). It boggles my mind how frequently posters get their e-panties in a bunch over "personal attacks." Gird your balls already, man, this is the internet. Wait till you get personally attacked in real life to start complaining about it.

Honest back and forth about a topic is just swell. Just stop trying to get the last word in with a guy like jonnyd, who's obviously joking and being a wiseass.

Back to ball: Joba must not be wasted all season in the pen.

me a wiseass? I resemble that remark....I just happen to flip the game on today and see that fuckin farnsworth character...uggg. I see he has given up more than a hit an inning this spring....or an even hit per....he sucks donkey balls....cappy, not to bring you in on this again but since you know more about baseball than anybody I must ask you. am I allowed to predict a bad year from Farnsworth or would that just be ridiculous speculating on my part??

I'm reminded of something my father told me regarding how frequently people ask the wrong question. When people would ask him, "Can I sue person X for this?" my father would say, "You can sue a person for anything. The proper question is whether you can sue successfully."

So you can predict away to your heart's content.

Fair enough. I just find it amusing that you take such a hard line against fan predictions.Isnt making predictions a huge part of being a sports fan? I enjoy fantasy football very much as do millions of fans across the country. Arent you making predictions in your head each time you select a player? Isnt filling out a bracket for march crapness making predictions? Or even two guys who are fans of opposing teams sitting in a bar busting eachothers balls about how bad their team is gonna be this year-predictions no? Sounds like a lot of fun to me. Especially since this is a message board where fans come to chat, bullshit, make predictions and bust balls. This really isnt the place for you cappy. Youre too bright for most of us. Maybe its because your daddy is lawyer, I dunno. I do appreciate you bearing with me though.

hey First Time Sender if you were in this thread more often you'd see that davecrazy had said that comment in pretty much those same exact words about 20 times. he exists here only to make douchebag comments every chance he gets.

my "sarcastic comment" in the mets thread was when someone said (incredibly vaguely) "john maine is ready to dominate this season" and i quoted him and responded "link?". take that however you will but it is obvious that im not trolling like davecrazy.

Joba, Kennedy, and Hughes are regularly touted on this board and in the media as the future of the franchise with the potential to be star pitchers this year. It's your prerogative to respond how you want, nobody is trying to take that away from you... but your responce to the "vague comment" appears to be the same type of sarcastic trolling and you're trying to argue it both ways. The Maine comment wasn't vague at all, he pitched the day before and has pitched well all spring.

You obviously missed the point. A BU education ain't what it used to be... Go Huskies!!!

Seems to me that the Mets fans have a preseason thread and we have a preseason thread and yet they prefer to be in ours than in their own. At least some of them. Why is that? Shall I count the whys?

It's not a hard line against fan predictions. Where I lose you is in the discussion of the REASONS why you make the predictions, and your seemingly rigid, deductive approach to making them. I believe I've stated this several times. I can only assume you are purposefully ignoring this (because I hate to assume that you're incapable of comprehending this).

As an example, if I told you that I bet the Jets were going to go undefeated next year, that would probably be an eyebrow-raising prediction. But still a fan opinion, which - as you claim - is a huge part of being a sports fan. After stating my opinion, though, I have to think that people would ask why I held that opinion. And if I then hemmed and hawed, tossed out a few platitudes about team chemistry and the offensive line having time to gel and blah blah blah, and then even went on to say that the reason for my opinion is that Chad Pennington is the greatest QB EVAR and is going to throw for 70+ TDs next season because he's soooooo unstoppable... well... something tells me that people would -- to use your phrase -- take a hard line against my fan prediction.

You brought up selecting fantasy players in your post. That's another good example. You are welcome to make whatever predictions you want regarding your picks in any league. However, whose opinion do you give more credence to... the guy who comes in last place year after year, or the guy who wins the league year after year?

You want to know what the stupidest part of all of this is? It's that you don't (or can't) even recognize the central point in all of this... which is that I'm not saying your predictions are definitively wrong and/or implausible. Just that they're really not supported by the information available. My issue isn't with your predictions... it's with your alleged reasons for making those predictions.

So have all the opinions you want. Just don't be surprised if rational people point out when you go out on a flimsy limb with shoddy reasoning. You can think whatever you want about anything, anytime. Forgive me, though, if I don't think much of the opinions that are poorly supported.

Ohlendorf has been scary good this spring. I guess there is no chance of him becoming a starter, is there?

If Farnsworth is going to continue to suck, he should become our designated driller. Now that the Yanks are into retaliation, we at least know he can kick the shit out of anyone who charges the mound on him. No big loss when he gets suspended for a few.

WTF? When did YES change channels? It went from 30 to 53 for me. So instead of being grouped with the other sports stations, now YES is all by itself. Bastards.

So, did I miss the results or did it never happen but did Cabrerra and Duncan have their appeals and what was the outcome?

I know it's only been pre-season and tonight is the last game but the starting pitching throughout has been total garbage. I hope they don't think the lineup is going to keep bailing them out.

Hughes had a solid final start:

    5 innings
    3 hits
    2 runs
    1 earned
    1 walk
    4 strikeouts
    69 pitches / 44 strikes

This was tonight's lineup, expected to be the lineup for Monday:

    Damon LF
    Jeter SS
    Abreu RF
    Rodriguez 3B
    Giambi 1B
    Posada C
    Cano 2B
    Matsui DH
    Cabrera CF

However, that could change. Jeter left the game in the 5th inning, and according to Abraham, he wasn't scheduled to leave the game that early. Hopefully no injury.

And Wang had an ERA over 8 for the spring. Kennedy looked really good though. ERA around 2.0. I wonder just how long they will let Mussina start. I would think he will be on a short leash.

BTW, Giambi and Abreu had huge springs. Both are in their contract years. If they are anything like Posada last year they may have great regular seasons as well.
