Unbelievably boneheaded plays on defense for both teams in all three half-innings so far, and the Mets lead 4-2.

Are the Brewers an MLB team? This is so ugly.

For a supposed star-on-the-rise Wheeler has been quite unimpressive so far. The contrast with Harvey is pretty dramatic.

You know that a team is bad when they allow Davis-Nieuwenhuis-Lagares to go 9-for-14 with 5 runs and 10 RBI against them.

someone said on the radio this morning that his stats look very comparable to harvey last year.

i dont get the same feel with wheeler that i did with harvey last year. hopefully someone can harness this kid and get him to understand how to have better control in the strike zone. sadly some guys just cant do that.

Besides the obviously different feeling you allude to (which I agree with 100%), that statement comparing the two of them is utter nonsense. After 4 games Wheeler has a 4.29 ERA, 1.619 WHIP, is averaging 6.9 Ks/9 IP and 5.9 BBs/9 IP, and the league has an .852 OPS against him. After 4 starts Harvey had a 3.63 ERA, 1.300 WHIP, was averaging 10.5 Ks/9 IP and 4.9 BBs/9 IP, and the league had a .739 OPS against him. They aren't even remotely similar.

Not only was Harvey better after 4 starts, it was also at exactly this point that it suddenly clicked into place for him. Starting with his 5th start on August 16 last year, he has pitched 160 innings in 24 starts and has a 2.25 ERA and 0.944 WHIP over that time. It is of course a very small sample for Wheeler, but does anyone see that coming from him in his next 24 starts?

Obviously I hope Wheeler turns out to be a superstar, but anyone who claims that he has shown anything special so far (in direct contradiction to Harvey even at the same point) is full of crap.

hes young, he is raw and he has talent. harvey may end up being a problem for him as alot of people will always compare him to harvey.

i am giving him the rest of this year and see what if he can show brilliance, next year i expect him to be better and far more polished. hopefully he will be that.

then again to strike oil twice is hard to do, but man oh man that would set the mets up to be a good team for years to come... if they ever decide to get some position players.

As expected Wright is the starting 3b for the NL All-Star team. Harvey was also named to the team, and it will be a big surprise if he's not the starter.

Yasiel Puig did not make it, but he will no doubt get into the fan Final Vote and it will be shocking if he doesn't win it.

I don't think Puig will get in. Two reasons.

    1) There are two Dodgers on the list.

    2) Giants go crazy with voting, I bet it's Pence.

Another excellent start for Hefner - will the bullpen be able to handle a 2-1 lead?

Parnell with the 4-out save and the Mets win without scoring an earned run.

Oh joy - another crappy start for Harvey? 50 pitches through 2 innings and down 2-0? He may be blowing his All-Star start, and if this is what we have to look forward to for the rest of the year there will truly be no reason to watch the Mets.

    Ike Davis is brutal

    Mets 6th
    Tim Lincecum pitching:
Eric Young : Ball, Ball, Strike looking, Foul, Foul, Young tripled to left.
Daniel Murphy : Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Murphy singled to left, Young scored.
David Wright : Pickoff attempt, Strike swinging, Wright reached on an infield single, Murphy to second, Murphy to third on Scutaro throwing error.
Ike Davis : Strike looking, Davis grounded into double play second to shortstop to first, Murphy scored, Wright out at second.
Marlon Byrd : Strike looking, Byrd tripled to center.

Mets take the lead in the 6th with big help from bad defense. Harvey probably only has 1 more inning max, so it will take heavy lifting by the bullpen in any event.

Well, I thought Harvey would be out after 6, and it only takes 1 pitch for that to have been a good idea as Pence triples on the first pitch in the bottom of the 7th.

Edit: And on the second pitch it's a single to drive in Pence. More brilliant managing by Collins, and now Harvey cannot win (but could lose) the game.

121 pitches for Harvey. I can see working a pitcher to that degree if we were playing for something. This isn't the playoffs. Why work him so much?

Because Collins is a jackass. Obviously all of that BS about how badly he felt when he let Santana effectively end his career with the no-hitter was just that - BS. I always knew Collins had to go at the end of the year, but if he's going to ruin Harvey's career with this nonsense he needs to go right now.
