I think (and I could be wrong, but I think) that Woddy Johnson has just enough PT Barnum in him that the circus atmosphere (and I really didn't intend that awful pun)- or, more accurately - the bid for the back page is something that he needs to do.

How do you get the back page in a crowded NY market, which covers the Yankees, the Giants, and then if there's any room left everyone else? 2 ways...just win, baby, or make headline grabbing moves.

Where they went wrong is that while they were making these headline grabbing moves, they should've also been quietly building a solid team. They left out that little step, and until that's corrected, all you have is glitz with no substance.

Winning will fix how the team is perceived. But, until then, as long as they can sell the ad space at the stadium, the faces may change, but not how the off-the-field game is played.

I have faith that woody realizes the concept of winning = money. He did overpay about 400 million for this team but comon guys, he's not a retard.

Here in LA, when I wore Jets stuff, people would say they "hate the Jets".

Now they feel sorry for me...

2 division titles and no AFC titles since the damn AFL/NFL merger. We are supposed to be pleased with a few playoff wins every so often. "The Brand" sucks. Here's hoping one of these decades we get it right. Not holding my breath, but I'll be rooting.

Everything can change in one good season guys, If we come out and start the season off at like 6-2 with a couple big wins over real teams, People will start to say the Jets are back, if not we are fucked. If we come out playing good witch I belive with the right changes in managment and on offense , The Media will be saying the Jets are back by week 7, And all the nonbelivers will line up and we will spoil the party for the guys who love to watch us become a joke

Well Sanchez is just a bust, everyone has busts. Foot fetish wouldn't be a big deal if Rex didn't put his wife on YouTube and post swinger ads on the internet. Brett Favre wasn't an embarrassment until the end of the season. Remember when the Jets were in first and riding high?

yeah once you cross the river its all patriots and red sox fans.. this side of the world, fairfield county especially is just full of new yorkers who wanted to live in the country and really have no attachment to new england and look at themselves as new yorkers still.

i forgot about the favre cock pictures to the employee.

the problem the jets have is that there really is no brand. there is no history of winning, there is no superstar player shit they dont even have colors that people like.

the brand was always garbage. now its circus.

hopefully at this point the wood realizes that solid ownership with good vision and real plans for success build good brands. then he should realize that EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE that he employs is not good at what they do. and he needs to realize that he needs to include himself in that and get rid of everyone from the president down to the tootie fruitie who chooses what color towels the team should market and get the fuck away from the team and let someone else make his brand.

    The brand sucks

    We should start fresh

    Revamped logo
Add another color(grey, gold(notre dame) or black)
    Do things the right way

What dream world are you living in? What QB is going to perform this miracle for us besides a weak schedule in which we won't be anything more than a statistical anomaly.

Growing up in NY the Jets brand was a brash QB who threw down the field and a defense that pressured the QB. The Giants were 3 yards and a cloud of dust and a stout run D.

The brand isn't the problem it's our management team has this thing ass backwards.

The Jets of the early 80's were very similar to the Jets of the late 60's but they didn't get to a Super Bowl.

I think the Jets of the 60's just got lucky. They were never close to the best team in football during that era, not even the best team in the AFL, but they managed to beat the best team on Any Given Sunday and the legend was born.

Since then the franchise has been chasing a ghost.

What we really need is for the first great Jets team to be born and that's going to take the first great Jets GM.

Weeb Ewbank was a great coach, which is the other reason the '68 Jets got lucky.

Er I think some of your assumptions about Woody are way off base since his only care appears to be selling PSLs plain & simple

The Jets became very popular when they were successful in 2009 and 2010. The brand was basically Rex Ryan talking shit, running the ball, and playing great defense.

Winning fixes everything. The Jets aren't living up to the brand they created because they don't have the o-line to run the ball anymore, and the great defense is constantly being sunk by a horrible QB turning the ball over.

I'm sure Woody will try to fix it or change it. Jets fans are reacting worse to this season than they did to all the years of Kotite failure. Part of it is because Rex succeeded in raising expectations. 6-10 and being out of the playoff race by week 16 is now unacceptable, where as 15-20 years ago that would have been a decent season.

The other change is in Rex. I don't know if Woody put a leash on him, or if Rex is self censoring but he has certainly lost his edge (ie, the "fuck you" mentality) he first had when he came here.

I disagree Champ. I think Woody does care about winning. He just doesn't have a f'n clue how to go about building a sustainable winning franchise which in turn, boosts the value of "The Brand" overall. Woody really needs to get this upcoming overhaul right for the sake of the franchise. He fks this up, and this franchise is in the shitter for the foreseable future. Most of us that saw SBIII won't be alive to see the next Jet SB.

Sorry to be so grim, but that's just the way it is.

Talking the talk instead of walking the walk is frowned upon in this establishment! (Meaning the NFL)

Winning doesn't fix everything. Walt Michaels was fired after taking the Jets to the AFC Championship game.

The brand that Rex established was talk shit-get lucky-talk more shit. When the luck runs out you're just talking shit.

Yes! This is exactly what it's all about. Get a great GM/President and everything else will fall into place. Woody can bring in good coaches, but if we have a crappy GM then we're just wasting time.

    A few points

    1. NFL overpraises you when you're up & kicks you when you're down. High profile Jets are taking their lumps now. Its too easy a story to tell.

    2. The board is, understandably, a little myopic. All teams have these types of skeletons in their closets. All teams get kicked when they're down.

    3. Winning cures everything. The Jets make the play-offs next year, all is forgotten.

    4. Best case scenario for Woody - Rex stays and Jets fight their way back to play-offs and Super Bowl contention. Right now, there is no other scenario (eg, bring in a big name coach like Gruden) that holds as much of an upside.
