Smart teams don't select in the top 6 five times in seven years. I'm guessing teams with a similar lack of intelligence have selected multiple QBs in that range.
Well you’re including Edge players and LB’s together for NE and PIT and I think you know very well that those roles are fundamentally very different, so they are not really relevant here. Bud Dupree and Jarvis Jones are Edge players while Ryan Shazier is an off-ball LB. Likewise Chandler Jones is an Edge while Dont’a Hightower is also off-ball. In regards to TEN and SEA, you’re talking about OT’s and OG’s which are not the same. Chance Warmack and James Carpenter are both NFL Guards regardless of what they played in college. Guards make significantly less than OT which means you can pay both 1 year after the other if necessary. The Titans had to let Conklin go because they could not afford both he and Lewan. You’re lumping players from different positions together to support your point but CB is different from S in your Packers example, OT is different from G in your Seahawks and Titans examples, Edge is different from LB in your Patriots and Steelers examples. IDL is different from Edge in your 49ers example. The main differences in these positions are the markets for these players. CB and S have quite different markets, OT and G too, of course LB and Edge, all have significant variance in the cost of the extensions. Even a few years between drafting these players will make a difference in trying to extend them and keep them all on the same team for more than a few years.
