I'll reluctantly say give them both one more year, but no more excuses.. This is the year for the Jets to bring in their QB of the future, whether it be through the draft, or free agency. Plenty of options available via both avenues. That being said, I have no faith in Mac handling the draft. The 2016 draft was a complete disaster, with the Hackenberg pick turning out to be a total waste and embarrassment; not to mention Darron Lee in the first round?? And then back to back safeties last year with so many glaring holes on the offensive side? He's made some wise roster moves, but they were obvious decisions, letting go of aging, problematic veterans with hefty salaries. At our current juncture, we are in need of a GM who is skilled in scouting and picking out promising, young players who fill crucial needs more than anything. One more shot for him IMO, and as far as Bowles, I'd love to see him get a shot at coaching a team with some true talent, but if he shows no improvement in game management after another year, then it'd be best to show him his walking papers as well.
Are you saying that if Woody Johnson were to fire Todd Bowles, he will not let Mac hire the next head coach? Lol. Who's going to hire the next head coach then? Let's be real, if Mac recommends Woody make a coaching change and giving Bowles a pink slip, and also has candidates he would like to interview, it's really Mac finding the next head coach. Woody may have final say, but bottom line Mac would be the one finding the next head coach.
That's what I've been saying ... there is no way Mac does not have any input on who the next head coach is. He may not be the guy responsible for handing out the contract or "final say" but I highly doubt he doesn't have a large amount of input. However, per the organization structure, the GM and Coach will report to the owner. The coach doesn't report to the GM. The owner and GM will work together to find the next coach. The problem is fans want the coach to report to the GM, which isn't the reason why the Jets aren't doing well.
no its not a valid choice because he doesn't get the the final say in who gets hired. It is ultimately not his responsibility, but the owner's, so no he isn't hiring anyone. change it to something relevant like "fire bowles" keep it plain and simple. You said let him hire his own coach, in which he isn't hiring anyone, the owner is.
I'm sorry I'm not buying that. It would have to be Mac's choice. Woody ok's the salary to be paid, and ultimely decides if somone should get the pink slip, that's it. He's no football guy like Jerry Jones.
Well, time to open your wallet and shell out some cash! http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/j...anizational-structure-creates-the-todd-couple W/ that in mind, Cimini is incorrect here, I think this organization always had this structure under Woody.
I agree with this. No GM is perfect, but this year he looked very good considering he purged the roster and the team didn't even take a step back. They have looked much more promising than last year even though they likely will finish with the same record. Most teams take a step back when they purge the roster and rebuild.
Pretty sure cimini has it right. Bradway hired Edwards. They were fired together,or what ever happened that they both were out of their positions yet bway was inexplicable still with the organization. Tanny hired and fired mangini. Tanny hired Rex .
Thanks for clarifying that, completely forgot Bradway hired Edwards and Tanny hiring Rex. For some reason, I thought it was Woody.
I repeat, choice 3 is a valid choice, and should things unfold in that manner, Mac would be the one leading the search for the next head coach, not Woody Johnson. If that were not true then Mac is nothing more than a figurehead GM, which he is not.
I think Woody played a HUGE role in getting Mangini fired (in his ear, etc), I don't think Woody liked Mangini at all. Tanny made it official.
Mac will be part of a 3 man panel of glatt,cj and himself and he will have input, not final say and no authority to fire the guy. Just like when Bowles was hired
Like I said, expect another year of Mac and Bowles. Only good from this is you fire them both together in a year if it's more of the SOJ.
