That won't happen. Remember MLB had 2 divisions for years, and the when they realigned into 4 divisions, profits jumped a fair amount.
If that was the case then why is the NFC East the way it is? Not exactly a bunch of weak teams there is it?
Those are all historic rivalry games tho, are they not? Dallas/Giants/Eagles/Redskins have all had epic battles for 30+ years, why break that up to save a few thousand on travel? The TV revenue they would lose would be astronomical. Making the AFCEast into a super group breaks up the rivalry games the Ravens/Steelers have with the Browns/Bengals. For the latter, those are their biggest home games of the year. With the way scheduling works, they would get that rivalry game once every 3-5 years. It's ALL about money. Rivalry games make huge money for small market teams who don't sell out every game.
With that logic no team should move from their division ever including the Bills since every game in division is a rivalry game and that = $$$$$$. Heaven forbid new rivalries form.
You're talking breaking MULTIPLE classic money driven rivalries. It won't happen. WITH THAT LOGIC, YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT AND ARE JUST ARGUING SEMANTICS CAUSE THATS WHAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU DO.
I think it'd be silly for the Bills to go to LA. LA is a larger market than Buffalo, obviously, but Toronto is close enough that they'd still retain a portion of their fan base while expanding their media profile. LA has proven a pretty abysmal football market. Taking a team across the country to compete there when you've already got remnant of old fan bases that probably maintain the same loyalties is silly. -X-
You know most of those rivalries you cherish were just picked out of a hat. They couldn't figure out how to realign the divisions in 1970 and with 5 suggestions they just drew it out of a hat, which made Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Baltimore leave their NFL rivals and join the new AFC. In 2001 before the decision was made there were proposals to boot SD out of the AFC, put Baltimore in the AFC South, Indy in the AFC North, Dolphins to the AFC South and various other moves. Besides who said rivals have to play twice a year? Pats-Colts seem to be fine with once a year as with all of college football.
