Looks like we are interviewing the U's TE coach for the same position here. Some big name TEs have come from that program recently, not to mention he used to be a local boy at Rutgers. He would fit right in around here at only 35 years of age... http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/colleges/university_of_miami/13884339.htm Cristobal interviews with Jets BY BARRY JACKSON University of Miami tight ends coach Mario Cristobal on Wednesday interviewed for the same job with the New York Jets, an NFL source said. Cristobal, who is expected to be promoted to offensive line coach if he stays at UM, is well-regarded inside the Hurricane program because of his abilities as a coach and recruiter. The NFL source believes Cristobal, 35, received an endorsement from former UM and Dolphins offensive line coach Tony Wise, who was recently hired to coach the Jets' offensive line under new head coach Eric Mangini. Cristobal, who played offensive tackle for UM from 1988-1992, also has coached at Rutgers. Coach Larry Coker, who is expected to name a coordinator shortly, will have an entirely new offensive staff if Cristobal leaves.
To me age has no bearing so long as they can do the job. Sometimes every old line organization likes us needs a breath of fresh air.
Hopefully but who knows until we see them in action. Pedigree is one thing results is something else all together. Just think back to the pro Ding & Hendy posts & where are they today? How about all the members who thought Herm & Bway were better then gold itself? The sands of time will tell if Woody this time pulled the right strings. To make any judgements at this time would be very silly since we have no idea yet of there abilities
The University of Miami may be on the verge of losing another assistant coach. Mario Cristobal, the Hurricanes' tight ends coach for two seasons, interviewed with the New York Jets on Wednesday and remained in New York for more talks today, according to a source. Cristobal, 35, is being considered by Jets coach Eric Mangini for the position of tight ends coach. He is expected to take the job if it is offered http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2006/02/16/w10c_miami_0216.html
This guy is a gem. Living down here I got to see it first hand. The guy worked with Shockey, Bubba Franks, and Winslow... this is a major upgrade imo.
This would seem to be a good hire. He opened up some of Schiano's recruiting ties in Florida. I'm not sure when he went back to UM. So I don't know if he worked with Miami's really good TE's. They had a pretty good TE this year. If he wants to make the move, I'm all for hiring good coaches.
Definately seems like a good hire. Miami has had some great TE's over the years and Cristobal has been the one coaching them. Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, etc. He also seems to have a personality, and hopefully brings some of that UM swagger with 'em. I'm liking the shape of this young staff that Mangini's built up right now.
Miami's run is over. All of the ass'ts are trying to shoot their way out just like the Jets coaches saw the ineptness of the Jets management 'team' and had to shoot their way out of Hofstra.
Right, that's why our assistants left. Do you lay in bed each night trying to think of something stupid to say just to piss on the Jets, in whatever they do? Don't try so hard, it seems to come to you naturally
