The most moronic thing I heard was on Sirius NFL radio, though, on Friday. Our good friend Leon Washington, always good for a quote, suggested that the owners voted for the rules change in order to keep the value of these guys down for this season. Like they will implement a rules change for a few bucks during one offseason. No word on whether this was Leon's brainchild, or that of his wife.
Kick and punt returns is said to be the leading cause of injuries, which I'm sure was always the case before they changed it. And so what do they do in '93, they moved it back to increase returns in order to make the game more exciting. And now, they're moving it up to reduce returns, and so therefore, they hope, will cut down on injuries. What are they going to do when scoring is down? Probably go back to the 30 yard line, I would guess. Morons.
I think the reason Woody voted the way he did is rather obvious. We are a defensive team. Either that or he is worried about PR, which he is, but as always, winning is more important.
i agree... the reason people were concerned about smith not returning was because other teams placed a high value on him and we have too many other pieces that need to be resigned first... now the market value for returners throughout the league has gone down so we can probably keep him for a better price.
