This guy has 9 punts in his life inside the 20. I realize he's only punted 41 times in his entire career, but thats only 20% of his punts. So if your average is only 37 yards, and you have only kicked 9 inside the 20...that leads me to believe he either sucks, or is punting in front of a full field. I agree, I guess we should give him a shot. But we can't find anyone with some more experience? It's going on 3 years since he punted in a real game in the NFL.
That was a mis-post. Hodges' career NET average is only 33, while Graham's is 37.7. http://www.nfl.com/players/reggiehodges/profile?id=HOD472685 http://www.nfl.com/players/bengraham/profile?id=GRA128871
He can't be worse than Ben Graham had been punting recently. He's certainly worth a shot and the Jets HAD to do something. Their punting was becoming a joke. Mangini also hinted at the fact that Westoff was all for it, which gives me some confidence in it.
You're right...sorry, typing at work. Trying to think of my next career, as I'm typing net and avg net...
Ben Graham averaged 37.5 yards net in his career. Reggie Hodges only average 37.4 yards TOTAL Why did we sign this guy?
The Pats and Falcons stuck with the Punters they used last year. I don't think Price was ever signed by anyone. The other NFL teams were already set at punter or picked up the #1 or #2 prospect.
Boland's Latest Comments >The new punter has a gun Eric Mangini really, really, really wanted this out there regarding new punter Reggie Hodges: ?The other thing that he does is gives us some flexibility with kickoffs and PAT, field goals. Functional in both those areas,? Mangini said this morning. ?Has the ability to throw the football, which gives us some opportunities in terms of fakes.? Had Russ Hodges been calling the press conference it would have been, ?The punter can throw the football! The punter can throw the football! The punter can?? Norv Turner, you have been put on notice that the Jets new punter has the ability to throw. Watching Hodges [Reggie, not Russ] during the time we were at practice, he kicked a nice spiral with some boom to it. I know, I know; everyone looks good in practice. But Graham really didn't. Not recently, anyway. <
Mack your a smart guy there is a reason this is his 4th team in 4 years..... how many shots is this guy going to get before teams realize he isn't good. Oh and he was drafted by the Rams so tihs is what his 5th team in 5 years with 8 total games played? Not to beat a dead horse but I thought the object was to get better.
It's too bad Jon Ryan was not still available. Packers cut him the week before season started even though he had a fantastic 55yd gross avg in preseason. I guess Seahawks already got him last week though
Graham could catch the football and run and I never saw us a run a fake with him on the field. Sounds to me like Mangini is blowing smoke up everybody's ass with this.
