Get ready for a steady dose of a mediocre run game as we watch the rest of the league throw the ball all over the field.
Well, it won't be as if Bates is on a timeline. He'll get all the time he needs to get the offense settled into what Bowles wants it to be whatever that is... He's the 6th OC in the last 8 years so maybe he'll actually hang around for more than a year or two. Who knows with this franchise... Remember, 7-9 will be something to hang their hats on if it happens since back to back 5-11's didn't seem to matter. If you think the bar is set low for Bowles, imagine how low its set for Bates. All he has to do is produce an offense with a pulse and he'll be a hero.
7-9 and the organization would probably throw Bowles/Mac a parade and hand out rings. Maybe hang a banner. Ugh!
this move has "we want kirk cousins badly" written all over it. Did Morton actually do something wrong? I liked how he ran the offense ... why did he get fired I never really read into it.
It sounded like issues that extended beyond play calling. I’d imagine admitting that he gave up in Denver didn’t please Bowles.
It's not that Bowles wanted to run the ball more, he wanted the run to be used in specific situations and Morton did not adjust his game plan, and went with the pass. It was a pattern as opposed to just a one time thing.
I think that was the last straw. Best guess is that Bowles wanted more run and Morton was more pass. We will never know what the dynamics were behind the scenes but we do know the outcome of it.
There were several reports at the end of the season on him having lots of friction with several other members of the organization. It was also reported that Bowles wanted a more run based offense and Morton didn't listen to him at all.
We need a youth infusion at RB if Bowles wants to be more run-heavy. Forte’s 2 yard dive plays are just setting us behind the down and distance.
Well, its not a bad thing that the OC and QB's will spend a lot of time in the meeting room together. Hopefully he can handle both duties at once.
I like Hasselbeck's quote about Bates: "Jeremy Bates is not a laid-back dude," said former NFL player Matt Hasselbeck, who was Bates' quarterback in 2010 with the Seattle Seahawks. "Jeremy Bates is fiery, aggressive and allergic to the media. He makes Todd Bowles look like Bob Costas; he's not comfortable in front of the cameras. "He's most comfortable with a dip in his mouth, talking football. He's rough around the edges publicly. But in a football environment, wearing sweats and hanging out with coaches and players, he's very capable and very bright."
Agreed. I believe Forte is gone, a Cousins & Barkley tandem would be ideal but I certainly would not trade up for him. We need a find a Kamara esque player in the second or third round or a big Zeke/Fournette type to compliment Powell.
We are very lucky as this is a very talented RB draft. Nick Chubb, Royce Freeman, Derrius Guice, Kerryon Johnson, Ronald Jones, Sony Michel. One of those guys will fall to us in the second round. Or we trade up late first round and grab one of them. I want Ronald Jones or Sony Michel.
I've read a lot of good things about Sony, I will be the first to admit I don't follow college as much as I would like. Any insight on RBs coming out is always welcome for me. I'll have to do some digging as we get closer to the draft, I really wanted Kamara in the second last year.
As long as we have a OL to pave the way for the backs. The OL must be addressed and I hope it is in both Free Agency and the early rounds of the draft. I would love to sign Cousins, add Nelson or Brown at 6, take Michel in the 2nd round (if he's there) and Price or the C from Arkansas whose name is escaping me right now with the other 2nd round pick, or 3rd round pick, if possible. Throw in a young QB in there and I'd be quite pleased to see this team really help/invest in the offensive side of the ball for once.
