It's the media too. They spin every story into a "circus" story, and consistently take the glass is half empty approach. They linger on every story and make moutains out of mole hills. I remember last year anonymous sources out of Tampa bay said coach schiano should go back to college. Yet the media largely ignored it. If that had been the Jets the ny post would have exploded.
So true. Just imagine what the headlines would look like if instead of the Giants, the Jets had Victor Cruz not reporting to camp. My Gawd, They'd be screaming from every rooftop and every mountain but, because it's the Giants, not a peep. It makes me sick. I Hate the media.
You make a good point. The Jets need some of the media to promote their brand, but it has to be a balanced approach. I was trying to say that the media isn't Rex's friend. They mock him all the time.
Any Jet fan who endured the paranoid gang-man style silence of the Mangini era does not hate the media
Glad to see that Woody & Co. seem to have cleansed the disloyal idiots. This has been obvious for months as the hacks continue to peddle their unsourced articles based on nothing more than rumors and BS. 99% of the Revis idiocy has been totally unreliable b/c the hacks have no sources for any of the baloney they are spewing. Hopefully more fans will wake up and realize that just b/c something is published in a newspaper or on the internet - doesn't mean its true or reliable information.
am i the only one that is loving this little game the jets are playing with the media? every stupid question the jets just refuse to answer. maybe he is, maybe he isnt... loving it at this point im pretty fed up with the collective football nation taking jabs at my favorite team every chance they get.
There's no percentage involved in being outgoing with the media. Information is a weapon that can be used against you in the competitive arena. Giving valid information out is giving away an advantage. Spreading invalid information may confer a temporary advantage but it works against your credibility in the long run. The best solution is the one that most successful organizations adopt and that's not to say much at all beyond the required information distribution required by NFL guidelines. Within those constraints being as boring as possible is a good strategy. Watching Bill Belichik in front of the media is like watching a corn futures analyst on a financial network only he'll barely admit that corn futures exist. You don't have to go to those extremes to manage the media but it's not a bad idea to be trending that way.
How many non-answers will Idzik give before the media gets the hint. Is it possible to take away press credentials away from people like Myers and Serby? They have no football knowledge and say nothing constructive.
Belichik has been giving non-answers for 13 years now and the media is still asking. The media is never going to stop asking.
Are there attributed sources w/actual names that you are referring to? All I have seen is the typical "unnamed sources" which is the same as just making stuff up to sell a paper or fill space.
Every quote that I've seen so far has been attributed with to a "source" or an "NFL source". I have not seen a single quote attributed to a "Jets source" or a "Bucs source". Both sides are getting played by people in the middle or on the sidelines with the active assistance of the media.
" i hereby resign as the h.c. of the n.y.j." a press release given in one sentence, possibly the most info he ever gave to the press. fftopic:
Glad Idzik is giving them the Mangini treatment. I prefer to keep EVERYTHING in-house. There is absolutely NO advantage to sharing your thought processes with media and fans. I know some people here were all butthurt from 06-08 because they didn't know how players felt about things and stupid shit like that, but that's how it should be. The media should get NOTHING from this organization. Give them the Parcells treatment and ban every single assistant coach from talking to the media except on mandatory pressers. We'll see where Mehta gets his info then.
